There are now 32 brand new lighting fixtures (16 on each side) mounted onto a military grade air piston tower reaching 40 feet into the air. Grad Nite '03 will be the first event to use these new fixtures in show, and they look AWESOME! They can easily light up the stage twice as bright as the Castle itself. AND, plans are now in the works to build two more towers behind the stage to give the stage true back light. These new towers are planning to be built in the moat, alongside the ramps behind the stage. They will be enclosed and totally unseen by Guests, until they are uncovered and raised into the air.

28 April 2003: MK Fireworks Show Update

Further to the 7 February 2003 update below, rumors inside MK indicate that the new firework show has been given final approval. The preliminary name of the show is "Wishes", and will feature narration by Jiminy Cricket, and an all new musical score.

As witnessed by the testing a few months back, there will be brand new pyro effects, never before used, and 8 new launch locations.

Finally, more good news...
The opening date looks to be moving towards October 2003, rather than December 2003. Please remember though, this is unconfirmed speculation, and as always, is subject to change.

Whinny The Pooh will be down for rehab from Friday, April 25th through June 27th, 2003. Information indicates that the honey pots will be having doors installed for safety reasons and there will POSSIBLY be gates in the loading area. There will most likely be the usual rehab updates: paint, etc.

20 March 2003: Pin Trading Expert Gives Magic Kingdom Guests Inside ‘Scoop’

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Pin trading beginners and enthusiasts who want the “inside scoop” have the opportunity to speak with an expert to hear the latest pin news as well as learn pin trading basics, like etiquette and tips on “how to trade.”

Scoop Sanderson, the latest “streetmosphere” character to roam through the Magic Kingdom theme park, now offers his insider tips on the popular activity Sunday through Thursday at 1 p.m. at Exposition Hall located on Main Street, U.S.A.

In addition to offering trading tips, Sanderson hosts games and activities for his “pin pals.” Park admission is required, and guests are advised to check with the Exposition Hall cast members for the latest schedule updates.

6 March 2003: Park Attendance Struggling again

It seems that attendance at the parks is struggling again, and is sinking to the levels of 2 years ago. All parks are developing plans to make cuts, with the aim of not laying off any full time cast or cutting park hours any more than needed.

Some cuts that have already been implemented:

  • Rehabs progressing at a slower pace (such as the Barnstormer and Plaza Restaurant)
  • No Cast overtime and hiring freeze
  • Closing of small food wagons/locations
  • Moving cast from the most heavily hit areas to the more busy (eg Epcot to MK)

Depending how things go in the coming weeks, there may be more additional cuts including:

  • Sleepy Hollow and Aunt Polly's Landing are scheduled (as of now) to
    close on 16 March 2003
  • Main Street vehicles going to a seasonal operation
  • Reduction of FASTPASS attractions (mainly at Epcot and Studios)
  • Toontown may be going to a 10-6 operating schedule during the slower times
  • Some entertainment moving to 5 day a week schedule
  • Reducing character locations in Epcot
  • Main Street Gallery likely to be closing soon
  • Downtown Disney shops reducing operating hours

Remember all these points are subject to change.

7 February 2003: New Firework show!

There is a very good chance that a major new nighttime firework show will be showing at the Magic Kingdom in December 2003.

Lots of new effects have been recently tested in the park after hours, such as shooting fireworks off of the castle, railroad tracks, buildings in fantasyland, new low level fireworks near the crowd, and all around the perimeter of the park.

It has great new music that sounds like a combo of Fantasmic and Illuminations. There is a possible tie in with the "Magical Reunions" promotion that starts during the fall.

30 January 2003: Buzz Lightyear rehab

23 January 2003: Space Mountain lose FedEx sponsorship

The long rumored removal of FedEx as the sponsor for Space Mountain appears to be underway. A report from a recent visitor (thanks spacemtnfanatic)...

"The TTC audio now cuts off after "Tomorrowland's Gateway to the Galaxy" and the "Presented by Federal Express" part did not play. I thought maybe I had missed it, but listening as other cars entered confirmed they had taken it out.

In addition, the posters on the walls of both unloading stations have been removed, as well as both Fed Ex logos under both signs at the entrance."

8 January 2003: Alien Encounter/Stitch rehab

Further to the 16 September 2002 update below, it is now almost 100% certain that the Stitch makeover will happen over at Alien Encounter. As plans stand, Alien Encounter will close February 2004, and will reopen in October 2004 with the new Stitch storyline.  A budget of around $10 million is being used to rework the attraction, including the creation of Stitch Audio Animatronics beginning this summer at WDI. As always, this is not officially released information, and may be subject to change.

15 November 2002: Frontierland FASTPASS changes (thanks FLcastmember)

Since FP, it has been hard for Disney to keep its stand-by wait times correct, due to the fact that you never know just how many FP people are going to come in at a given time. The old way, and still done at non FP rides, is for the greater CM to simply look at the line, see where it is backed up to, then post it on the moveable wait time sign at the entrance to the ride. At FP rides, it can only be done from a computer, by managers or coordinators. This leads to the same 45 MIN time on the sign for hours at a time. Or during parades, when the stand-by line moves at lot faster due to lack of returning FP guest, but then gets longer as 20-30 min worth of FP rush to the return line all at once, instead of being spaced out in 5 min gaps.

Disney has started to implement a new system that will make the wait times nearly 100% right. Its name is Flick. The hardware has been/is being installed at various rides all over WDW.

A CM at the entrance scans a white blank card (on a Lanyard) by a special box. This starts a timer. The guest is given it and instructed to give it to the CM at the load area. He/she then scans it again. The computer takes the info and can either send a text page to the duty manager in that area with the wait time OR it can automatically update the clock. Every 10 Min, a guest will be asked to do this. All CM in Frontierland have been trained on this and it has been tested out a couple of times at Big Thunder.

15 November 2002: Splash Mountain entry area (thanks FLcastmember)

The sometimes confusing and congested Splash Mmountain entrance/ FP distribution area/ WDW RR entrance, will be getting a facelift. Similar to the well themed entrance to BTMRR, it will try to make that area less confusing for the first time guest. The Stand-By line can be hard to find, even more so at night, and the WDW RR entrance is even harder. Disney hopes that a new sign package/ lighting and maybe even a slight redesign of that area might help. Look for it mid-December 02.

12 November 2002: Rehab Updates

Crystal Palace: Still under construction, and is starting to look very beautiful with the brand new stained glass windows, glass domes and completely new porch.

Castle Gazebos: Now reopened, however stage lighting and work on "backstage" area still under construction.

Castle rooftops: Completed, and looks great!

Christmas decor is starting to be installed now, and will be completed by Thanksgiving.

11 November 2002: Surprise Sightings, Meet-and-Greets, New Breakfast, More Show Performances This Fall

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- When the steam train whistle blows early in the morning at the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom, it signals the beginning of a new theme park experience with lots of character. Actually, make that lots of characters.

Every day, Mickey Mouse, Donald, Goofy and the rest of the Disney character gang arrive at the Main Street, U.S.A. station aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad minutes before the Magic Kingdom opens, greeting early-arriving guests to a theme park full of character fun like never before. Steps inside the gates, Town Square becomes a joyous scene of cherished Disney characters signing autographs, posing for photos and making guests feel welcome. And throughout the day, more characters meet and mingle with Magic Kingdom guests than ever before.

“Our guests want to see characters,” says Rich Taylor, vice president, Walt Disney Entertainment and Costuming. “Guests -- young and old -- tell us that a special kind of magic happens when they see our Disney characters. In our theme park attractions, we relive the fantasy stories. Imagine how much richer and entertaining the experience if, say, you arrive at the Mad Tea Party . . . and the Mad Hatter himself is there to greet you.”

More characters are making more magic throughout the Vacation Kingdom -- not just in the Magic Kingdom. Here are additional character entertainment opportunities:

More character meet-and-greets in Epcot World Showcase;
An all-new Princess Storybook Breakfast at the Norway pavilion in World Showcase;
An expanded show schedule -- from five to seven days -- of “Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage” at Disney-MGM Studios.
“Our aim,” Taylor says, “is to create delightful surprises -- with lots of characters. Opportunities throughout the day to meet and greet characters in their storybook environment. And also opportunities to discover characters in some places you might not expect.”

4 November 2002: New drinking fountains (thanks SeanR)

New water fountains have been added either side of the castle.

21 October 2002

On October 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and November 4 the MK will be testing the Main Street Character Cavalcade.

This entertainment will be offered on nights where there is no SpectroMagic or Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks. At the end of the day, following the last Cinderella's Surprise Celebration, over 30 characters will join Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as they drive from the Castle Forecourt to Town Square in a fire truck on Main Street, U.S.A. in a street party fashion. The characters will interact with Guests as they get ready to hear a proclamation from the Mayor. After the Mayor thanks guests for their visit and proclaims them honorary citizens of Main Street, U.S.A., the Characters head on home to Mickey's Toontown Fair on the Walt Disney World Railroad train as Mickey Mouse bids them goodbye from the Main Street Train Station.

16 September 2002: Updates of the MK Classics

A budget of around 30 million dollars is being put forward to carry out a major rehab of the MK classic attractions in 2005.

9 September 2002: Haunted Mansion Rehab update

The rehab might take a little longer than expected due to some additional items being rehabbed, rather than having another long rehab next year. Mainly they're doing some
structural work that guests will not notice at all, repainting the pop-up heads, and most of the figures have been removed from the graveyard scene for work. A new load belt with new paint/lighting treatments will be installed to make loading easier, along with a new load safety spiel.

6 September 2002: Entertainment Changes?

The Magic Kingdom is to test out a few things over the next month in regards to
entertainment scheduling. They understand that guests want night time entertainment, and also they know how difficult night entertainment is when the parks have such low attendance and short operating hours, specifically closing at 6pm.  Keeping the park open until 8pm to be dark
enough for fireworks is tricky, but they are going to try one week of low attendance where fireworks will run every night, one week with SpectroMagic running every night, and one week alternating each day. On the back of this there will be lots of guest surveys during this time to see if the new entertainment increases guests ratings and intent to return to the parks. Finally, they are working on an idea where instead of either fireworks or a parade, a huge character meet on Mainstreet USA will take place, with close to 100 different characters interacting with guests with music etc.

5 September 2002: Alien Encounter and Stitch

Back in February's update, I mentioned talk of a Lilo and Stitch makeover of Alien Encounter. This rumor has resurfaced once again with insiders at Disney.

21 August 2002: Crane at the MK for the rehabs (thanks Billiam7)

13 August 2002: MK Rehabs (thanks Dave and John)

The gazebos on each side of the Castle Stage will be closing this Saturday, 8/17/02, and are being completely rebuilt. The new gazebos will be larger and accommodate the new sound/lighting/pyro controls for the Castle Stage, including brand new stage lighting fixtures. Completion is scheduled for mid October. Cinderella's Surprise Celebration show will not be effected by the rehab, as a temporary booth will be used in the meantime.

From August 18th through September 14th there will be a large crane next to Cinderella Castle to paint the roofs. The crane will be visible to Guests everyday, even during the first two weeks (weeks of August 18th and 25th) when all of the work will be done on a later shift. During the last two weeks (weeks of September 1st and 8th) work will be done during the day as well.

13 June 2002: Roy E. Disney rededicates father's train

From the Eyes and Ears

Roy E. Disney, chairman of Walt Disney Feature Animation and vice chairman of The Walt Disney Company, helped rededicate the Roy O. Disney train at the Magic Kingdom Park during a June 6 ceremony at the Main Street Railroad Station.

The Roy O. Disney train, which became part of the Walt Disney World Railroad on Dec. 1, 1971, has undergone a complete restoration.

Michael Campbell, a member of the board of governors of the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society (named for Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific backyard railroad), and George Britton, foreman of the Walt Disney World Steam Train Maintenance team, also took part in the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, Roy drove the restored train from Main Street, U.S.A., to Mickey's Toontown Fair with guests and Walt Disney World Railroad Cast Members onboard. After taking photos with the Cast Members and signing autographs for guests, Roy addressed the Cast, saying, "Keep up the good work. Take good care of this beautiful train."

20 April 2002: Space Mountain Changes??

I have heard quite a few rumors circulating that Space Mountain may be in for a fairly major rehab at the end of 2002.  Info from within Disney indicates possible changes to include new designs on the inside wall of the attraction, a new queue line system, and a possible rerouting of the track. (thanks Greg)

7 February 2002: Alien Encounter Makevoer?

Apparently Imagineering has some cool ideas to convert Alien Encounter into an attraction based on the upcoming feature - "Lilo and Stitch". It is by no means confirmed, and unclear if the idea is for a permanent replacement, or just a temporary makeover (like the DL Mansion).

11 December 2001: Carousel of Progress Reopening!

OK, first a warning....as always, things can change, but these plans are correct as of now..

Carrousel of Progress will be open for the Christmas season!! Plans indicate it being open from 12/23/01 to 1/2/02.  It will still be running on reduced hours during that time, but will at least be open.

If the COP is hugely popular during this time, it may just have the effect of changing some minds in Management about the future of Walt's COP.  So when it does open, make sure you ride it over and over!!

11 November 2001: Eride nights back

Eride nights will return for November 21 8PM-11PM and November 24 9PM-12AM

24 October 2001: Closure Not Permanent

Some officials at WDW are indicating that COP is closed due to a cost cutting exercise, and it not permanently closed at this point.  We have heard that one before!

24 October 2001: Replacement for SpectroMagic

The removal of SpectroMagic still remains likely, and further replacement scenarios are being discussed.  It now seems possible that for the Christmas period, the Xmas parade with run during the daytime, with the Share A Dream Come True parade running at night.

23 October 2001: SpectroMagic to be Cancelled

NOTE: The following is rumor and speculation, and is not officially confirmed information, so please treat it as such.

In what seems to be more bad news coming out of WDW this week, I now have word that the unthinkable is about to happen with one of WDW's most popular ever parades.  It seems the newly refurbished SpectroMagic is about to cancelled.

As plans stand at the moment, it appears that SpectroMagic is due to be discontinued In November 2001, with NO performances on even weekends or busy periods.

If this plan is put into action, SpectroMagic may not make a return until Summer 2002, if at all.  I have also been told that SpectroMagic performers may well be told the news this weekend.

I must point out that this is not yet confirmed information, but comes from a very reliable source.

I must also say that at the moment, Disney Guest Relations are not aware of this plan.  So if you happen to call or email them, be prepared to be told there are no plans for this to take to place.

There are plans in place for alternative entertainment, should Spectro close.  Currently these are

A) Running the Daytime Parade at Night
or
B) Running 2 Fireworks shows a night

As soon as I have any more information on this it will be posted.  Let's hope the plans are scrapped before even more damage is done to WDW.

22 October 2001: Carousel of Progress Closed!

Starting Sunday 21 October 2001, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress is closed until further notice.  It is not clear whether this is a mechanical, show, budget cut, or some other reason.

What a nice way to begin celebrating Walt's birthday :(

20 September 2001: Timekeeper Closed

Once again, Timekeeper has closed, and is not expected to reopen.  Thanks to Craig P for the photo.

19 September 2001: Low attendance hitting parks

Due to soft attendance and budget cutbacks the following changes will take place at WDW. Please keep in mind most of these are temporary.

  • The MK Tipboard will only be open on Saturdays.
  • Tony's Town Square will stop serving breakfast.
  • Almost all quick service and full service food locations property wide will either open later or close earlier.
  • The remaining Eride nights for September are cancelled and there will be none in October.
  • This Friday and next Friday the hours at MK are being reduced from a 9pm close to a 7pm close with no parade or fireworks.
  • This Saturday and next Saturday the hours at MK are being reduced from a 10pm close to 9pm close with 1 parade.
  • More cutbacks will be decided within the next week.

As always these are subject to change.

22 August 2001: Timekeeper Open

As rumored, Timekeeper did reopen.  Seanrr sent me some photos on the reopening day.

15 August 2001: Timekeeper and other rehab news

As rumored, it looks as though Timekeeper may get a stay of execution, and is being brought back into service to cover the other rehabbed attractions.  Note, the dates below are as always subject to change.  You should call WDW Guest relations for official information.

Timekeeper will open this Sunday, August 19 2001 with daily operating hours of 1000-1800.  It is currently scheduled to be open until 22 September 2001, when it will close again.

"It's a small world" will go down for rehab from Monday, August 20, scheduled to reopen on September 8 2001.

The Hall of Presidents theater will be down from Monday August 20 2001, to September 30 2001, reopening  October 1 2001. The rotunda will remain open from 1000-1800 until  September 9 2001, reopening with the rest of the attraction on October 1 2001.

Astro Orbiter is down for rehab from Monday August 27 2001, scheduled to reopen on September 23 2001.

14 August 2001: Timekeeper news

There is discussion around WDW concerning a re-opening of Timekeeper for about 2.5 weeks. They are concerned because at one time The Astro Obiter, Hall of Presidents, Diamond Horseshoe, and Small World will be down.

It has NOT been finalized yet, and is still in the talking stage.  General feeling is that since attendance is so low it is not needed.

14 August 2001: Main Street Bakery

The Main Street Bakery re-opened after its rehab yesterday.

31 July 2001: More Timekeeper news

It seems that despite the report below (27 July), the Timekeeper Lobby is set to become a Buzz meet and greet area.  We are guessing that the setup described below was used for a convention/CM training session.

27 July 2001: What is going on inside Timekeeper?

"Journal" sent in this report from a recent visit...

"Everything in the pre-show lobby area was still intact. The only difference here was a folding table, an array of plastic chairs, and a TV set on a stand. This set-up looked like the type used for most "orientations" and such.

I continued into the main show 360* theater. First, everything seemed intact. Timekeeper (Robin) was standing upright, staring straight ahead. The "hologram" projecting screen was in "down" position, and I'm sure 9-Eye was hiding back there somewhere. I did not hop the rail to check, as I was nervous about spending too much time in there. Otherwise all "show" elements seemed fine.

One thing that I found quite confusing was that there were about 8 flatbed 16mm film editors up against the wall around the room. Most of them had film reels on them. I looked at one piece of film, and saw that it was black and white, but too small to make out any definite image. The large empty crates that these editors were probably shipped in were still there, in the "exit hall" leading to the array of exit doors.

Anyway, there was a makeshift sign (computer printout) that said "Tomorrowland Training Center" inside the hall leading to that door. The arrow on the sign pointed to the main show  theater which is about 20 feet down the hall.

There were some signs at the exterior of the Convention Center (by the main entrance) that showed cartoon illustrations of a "coming soon" attraction. I deduced it to be some sort of "innoventions" type of setup, where guests can sit in future-istic personal travel rockets, and so on."

So was this a temporary setup for some CM training events, preparation for a new attraction?? Anyone know more?

24 July 2001: News on the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor

Today we had a CM preview of the new main street ice cream parlour! It is beautiful. The queue setup is now accessible to wheelchairs and you order at the end of the queue instead of the counter. You then go to the new counter which is very nice <marble> and see them prepare the food in the back. Behind that area there is a really nice cabinet set up with stained glass. There is also very nice moulding around the walls, very ornate and nice. There is no longer a way to cut from the bake shop to the ice cream parlour, however there is a large picture window between the two. This is DEFINITELY a step up from what the ice cream parlour used to be. It is very nice to see money being poured into a rehab.. and it shows. The menu is almost the same with a few new choices for ice cream. They also have coke floats and also sundaes that are served in waffle bowls that are made right there. You can small the waffles being made.. Its very cool.. The ice cream parlour should open up tomorrow afternoon. The bake shop is still behind schedule. It looks like it should open the first week in August.

13 July 2001: Rehab news

Unconfirmed report that Astro Orbiter at WDW will be down for rehab September 2nd - 15th 2001.

4 July 2001: Official confirmation of Hall of Presidents changes

The Hall of Presidents at Magic Kingdom To Be Updated with Addition of President George W. Bush

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Hall of Presidents, the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom popular, patriotic tribute to the office of the presidency and democracy in America, is being updated to include the 43rd president, George W. Bush.
President Bush, who has personally recorded a speech written especially for the new version of the show, will become a part of the attraction in the form of a Disney Audio-Animatronics® figure sculpted by Disney Legend Blaine Gibson. Gibson has been primarily responsible for creating the 42-member presidential cast, even coming out of retirement to sculpt presidents Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton and now, George W. Bush. (Although George W. Bush is the 43rd president, only 42 individuals have served in the presidency.)

The Hall of Presidents re-opened last month with the first of its changes, the moving of the Audio-Animatronics figure of Bill Clinton to take its position with the other former presidents.

This interim show will not include President George W. Bush. However, a “Making of the George W. Bush Audio-Animatronics Figure” display will be featured in the attraction’s rotunda area. The exhibit will showcase the extensive and detailed research Disney designers, craftsmen and technicians do to create the presidents, not only studying their physical characteristics, but also their hairstyles, clothing, fabrics, jewelry and mannerisms to create the presidential figures as authentically as possible. White House staffs of all the presidents since Lyndon Johnson have provided key input to accomplish this authenticity.

At the end of summer, the figure of President Bush will be added and The Hall of Presidents will re-open in late fall.

Located in Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, The Hall of Presidents is a one-of-a-kind Disney classic originally envisioned by Walt Disney himself. In the moving and patriotic show, which features a film in which specially produced paintings are projected onto a huge screen, guests learn about the origins of the Constitution and the presidency, and the challenges both have faced since the founding of the Republic.

Then, in the most dramatic moment of the show, the screen parts to reveal America’s presidents, brought to life by the magic of Disney’s Audio-Animatronics technology, which electronically combines and synchronizes voices, music, sound effects, animation and other show elements to give life-like movement to three-dimensional figures. A patriotic and emotion-stirring finale finds the figure of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, rising from his chair to deliver words that still resonate with modern audiences, almost 140 years after they were first spoken.

The Hall of Presidents was last refurbished and updated in 1993 with the addition of an Audio-Animatronics figure of Bill Clinton. Also, for the first time, the attraction featured words spoken by a sitting U.S. President. President Clinton provided his own voice to a short speech heard during the show. The audio for the speech was recorded in the White House library.

28 June 2001: Reopenings!

Due to increased attendance so far this year, the El Pirata y el Perico Restaurant in Adventureland will reopen after 2 months of being closed. No menu changes

18 April 2001: More closings at MK

El Pirate y Perico (the taco restaurant next to Pirates) is closing on an 'indefinite' basis as well starting on Sunday 22 April, with no end in sight.

17 April 2001: Timekeeper and Keel Boats closing

www.intercot.com first reported that Timekeeper is set to close. Since then I have been trying to source information to confirm this. I now have word from a reliable insider that, assuming there is no last minute change of plan, effective this Sunday the 22 of April 2001, Timekeeper and the Keelboats will be closed 'indefinatly'. This is due to the fact that these two rides had VERY low attendance, often putting through less than 10% of what they optimally could in an hour. No replacements are currently planned. On a better note the Hall of Presidents will open shortly with a temporary show until the G. Bush Anamatronic is ready, sometime in October of this year. More info on these items as soon as I have it.

This year, beginning April 7th and Ending April 15th, Selected floats, rumored to be between 2 and 5, will travel the parade route before the Magical Moments parade to include Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny and other "springtime" characters.

8 February 2001: Update on Lion King

We have been informed by a CM at MK that the Lion King show is only down for around a week to replace some carpets and other minor show elements.

5 February 2001: Legend of the Lion King

Following the closure of the Hall of Presidents in January, the Legend of the Lion King has now closed.  Interestingly, the two shows share the same building.  So will there be two new shows, a rehab of both, or one new combined show?  Hall of Presidents is rumored to reopen again in-time for October 2001, but there is no word on the status of the Lion King.

28 December 2000: Magic Kingdom Expansion

The past 2 years or so, has seen many rumors about expansion to the Magic Kingdom, and in particular the addition of a major Eride -  Fire Mountain, Bald Mountain etc...

While we still have no official comment on the existence of these projects, I do have some further clarification on the current state of play.

REMEMBER - this is not official, and may or may not happen.  However, the information comes from a highly reliable source within WDI.

The following describes a long term plan for the purposes of dedicating land.  It fits with the original property plan, and the 25 year plan (completion would also mean finalisation of the 25 year plan)

  • MK is to be expanded 85 acres west, 44 acres north and 18 acres east
  • Addition of Bald Mountain (in whatever form it may take)
  • Addition of Mysterious Island (Journey to the Centre of the Earth)
  • A new transportation hub
  • Access to the WDW Airport
  • A new small Village area
  • 3 new resorts
  • Additional backstage shops - including a pyro area
  • Additional cast housing

Although these items above are in the plan, and land has been designated, the order, and timing of construction are yet to be decided.

REMEMBER, the following descriptions are rumors, not fact.

Bald Mountain is the project based around the Disney villains concept.  The new expansion of land across 20k and into Fantasy Land will house this new attraction, and the brand new land to which it belongs.  The new MK land, based around the villains is most likely where the whole Shadowlands rumors stem from.  The Bald Mountain project is another water based/hybrid coaster attraction, making some use of the existing 20k lagoon and the new area built behind Fantasy Land.

Mysterious Island would make use of a huge area of expansion, behind Big Thunder Mountain.  Based on the attraction currently under construction in Japan.

The following description of the Tokyo attraction from http://www.tokyodisneysea.co.jp/english/index.html

"Mysterious Island brings to life the writings of Jules Verne, the father of modern science fiction. Guests can visit Captain Nemo's secret base where he will invite them to become members of his crew for two thrilling adventures. On one, they will plunge to the bottom of the sea and encounter shipwrecks and mysterious creatures. On the other, they will journey to the depths the earth where the only escape route lies through an active volcano."

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" is located within the volcano itself.  Riders will travel downward through the volcano in "Enhanced Motion Vehicles" and encounter a large Animatronic creature.

9 September 2000: Explanation of the Stripes on the old Skyway towers

P8250066.jpg (146997 bytes)

From the photo I would suggest that the stripes are actually rusted bare metal in an area where paint has been removed.  This would have been done as lead paint abatement which would be required prior to demolition.  OSHA requires that lead paint be removed 4" to either side of any cutting or welding operations.  The band appears to be approx 8" wide and would be appropriate for a torch cut.  This is only a suggestion, but I would be willing to bet a few dollars on it.
