  • We have reliable word from a Studios Cast Member that The Great Movie Ride may close in 2000 to make way for a brand new attraction.  The ride was set for a rehab of some kind in 2003, but this has now been brought forward to sometime before Christmas 2000.  Initial rumors on what the new ride will be talk about Imagineering debuting the next generation of the EMV thrill machine vehicle (as used on Countdown to Extinction).  Possible themes seems to hinge around the popular Disney Villains concept.
  • Along with announcing the rehab of The Great Movie Ride, Al Weiss also confirmed that Horizons is to be rehabbed by the end of next year.  No further information was given on the Horizons rehab. Rumors surrounding this attraction range from a Space Shuttle launch simulator through to a new space themed attraction.

  • "Backstage Pass" reopens to guests in January and gives them the chance to experience some behind-the-scenes magic at Disney-MGM Studios. Visitors will see a blue screen demonstration where an audience volunteer helps create a "Home Improvement" scene by taking on Tim Allen in a nailing contest. They will also tour the production catwalk where they might even see actual TV or film production taking place on working soundstages.  There are also rumors that the sets from the show will make an appearance at the end of the tour.

  • News in from RKX on the Indy Stunt Show rehab, who spoke to the second unit director actor after a recent show.  The show was only designed to run for 5 years, and so the refit will replace all major components, combined with some new additions.  The cost is rumored to be $15million!
  • Some improvements have taken place on Journey into Your Imagination, in the line area, and a Figment shadow in the ride.  Nothing major at this time.
  • News from Dave.
    1.  The Bleachers and stands are being set-up for the Walt Disney World Indy Speedway that is Jan 2000.
    2.  Big Thunder Mountain Fast Pass is almost complete, should be ready by December 25th according to a CM.
    3.  FASTPASS construction has started at the Jungle Cruise.

  • After several weeks of problems with the CGI server, we now have the discussion board open again.  The ISP who hosts the board has lost all user data, meaning that we have lost all 400 posts to that board. Sorry to everyone who has contributed to the boards.  We now have backup procedures in place to prevent this kind of loss happening again.

If you were a registered user you will have to re-register.

Thanks, and I hope you continue to enjoy the boards!

  • The Studios have re-themed the parking lot.  The sections used to be Comedy, Western, Romance and Mystery.  Now, they are Television, Stage, Film, and Music.  They put up new colorful signs, and they repainted the red areas on the asphalt at the ends of the rows different colors to match the signs.  They are hoping this will help people find their cars better.
  • The Epic Stunt Spectacular at the Studios is going down in January for a 6 month major rehab.  There are rumors of a complete attraction change, but our sources dispute this.  The attraction has not had a major rehab since opening, and every mechanical system will have a major overhaul - this accounts for the lengthy 6 month downtime.  I would not be surprised to see some enhancements though, such as new effects.

News in from Scott Reed.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway has stepped up its relationship with the Walt Disney Co. The racetrack will be the sponsor of the Tomorrowland Speedway ride at Magic Kingdom in Orlando. The deal calls for Disney to add several features to the ride, such as the Yard of Brieln., Gasoline Alley and signs and banners of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. While driving the course, guests will hear Indy announcer Tom Carnegie calling a race. The ride also will be renamed the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. The project should be done by December. The Indy Racing League starts its racing schedule each year at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January.

Disneyland Paris officially announced the Disney Studios Paris today.

EURO DISNEY SCA 29 September 1999 DISNEYLAND PARIS:

LAUNCH OF THE SECOND PARK DISNEY STUDIOS

Euro Disney SCA has today confirmed the launch of its second park "Disney Studios" at the Disneyland Paris site. Envisaged in the original agreement made on 24th March 1987 between the French authorities and Disney, the second park is scheduled to open in the spring of 2002. It will adjoin the present park, the Magic Kingdom and the Disneyland Hotel and will benefit from the existing infrastructure, including RER (suburban) and TGV (high
speed) train stations, Disney village, hotels and visitor car parks.

Disney Studios will draw on a variety of themes: cinema, animation, television and new forms of audiovisual technology, inspired by the cinema of France, Europe and Hollywood. A combination of theme park and production studio, Disney Studios will have both a recreational and an educational aspect. Visitors will be able to discover and become more familiar with what goes on behind the scenes in the audiovisual and film world. The wide range of entertainment on offer for children and adults alike will include: a car stunt show produced by Remy Julienne, an interactive tribute to the genre of cinema, an introduction to what goes into the production of animation, a trip through a Canyon Catastrophes and the Rock'n Roller, a spectacular new attraction centred around the music of Aerosmith.  Disney Studios will offer
a large choice of animations and sensations for children and adults.

This project heralds the beginning of an important new stage of development for Euro Disney SCA. It will enable Disneyland Paris to strengthen its attraction, as both a touristic and an economic centre and to confirm its position as the leading tourist destination in Europe. It will also make an active contribution to the regional planning policy for the development of the area to the east of Paris. The park will lead to the creation of almost 5,000 jobs, of which 1,500 will be on the site as soon as the park opens. The public authorities will support the project by speeding up the timetable for certain infrastructural projects, such as a new interchange and a second arterial link from the A4 motorway to the park - both of these will be open from 2002. The authorities will also have a role in professional training programmes, such as the "tourist host" training set up by Disneyland Paris. The cultural dimension of the project will be embodied in the representation of European film heritage within the park and the establishment of partnerships between Disneyland Paris and training companies in television and film.

Total investment in the new park amounts to FRF 4 billion. It will be financed by an equity offering of FRF 1.5, billion of which The Walt Disney Company has undertaken to subscribe 39%, representing the level of its present stake in the Company. The equity offering will be submitted to shareholders at an Extraordinary General Meeting of Euro Disney S.C.A.,
which will take place on 2nd November. This financing will also include a FRF 2.5 billion long term loan from CDC (la Caisse des Depots et Consignations), one of Euro Disney's principal banks. Separately, Euro Disney SCA has announced today that the existing loans with the CDC for FRF 3.5 billion have been rearranged from 7.85% to 5.15% to reflect the
historical decline in market rates.

Commenting on this announcement, Gilles Pelissor, President and CEO of Euro Disney SCA, said: "The diverse themes at Disney Studios will enrich the existing offering Disneyland Paris. Disney Studios will complement the unique world of the Magic Kingdom, offering a journey behind the scenes of world cinema and into the heritage of Disney animation. The success of this project, represents an historical moment for our company and our region. It is the fruit of the entire cast of Disneyland Paris, who has made this resort the leading tourist destination in Europe, and of the famous Disney Imagineers".

  • I have a major problem with the web site.  My ISP is offering bandwidth of 100Mb per day.  My usage over the last week has been 1.2Gb per day - over ten times the allowed.  Because of this access to my site was suspended this morning.  It is now back in operation, on the agreement that I reduce the downloads from this site.  Until I can find something else, I have had to remove the Rock n Roller videos, which were generating almost 1Gb of downloads a day.

It is great in that loads of people are downloading things from my site, and
I appreciate the support from the visitors to the site.  Thanks!

  • I have received a lot of email about the Horizons post below.  I have word from a few sources (who have not been wrong in the past) that horizons will reopen in the original format.  All that is planned in the rehab is a clean and to repair failed parts.  There is no further word on what will happen to the ride after the Millennium Celebration at Epcot.  The reopening of Horizons will mean that Epcot will have the maximum number of rides available for the celebration.
