Dumbo queue indoor playground reopens - June 7 2021

The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue at Magic Kingdom remains closed for refurbishment, and Disney has updated its messaging to reflect a broader reopening window. Both the official website and the My Disney Experience app now state that the play area is expected to reopen “later this year.”

The interactive playground, which provides kids with a place to play while waiting for the ride, closed on February 24, 2025. Originally, Disney had listed a reopening timeframe of Spring 2025, but that reference has now been removed. Work on the playground includes updates to the flooring and netting.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant remains open and available to guests during the refurbishment. Only the play area is affected by the closure.

I hate this playground because it's impossible to get my kids out of it. Lol

I understand things happen sometimes out of Disney’s control, but this is a huge loss in the heat of summer for families with littles. We spent a lot of time in there cooling off and letting our kids play when they were younger. To me it’s the best designed interactive queue where you aren’t forced to go in but can still hold your place in line if it’s truly busy.

Didn’t it just close last month? Original plan was January with a “spring” re-open, so I wouldn’t expect this to come back for at least another month.

As of a couple days ago, no.

    Is the playground reopened yet?

What an awful thing to say about children. Just spray them with Lysol and wipe down with a disinfecting wipe.

They need surfaces that can withstand concentrated bleach and firehoses.

Well my kids are going to be disappointed on our spring break trip, they love playing in there

I take it you don’t have little kids. Cause that place is a God-send for those with littles.

It definitely doesn’t have the draw it did before New Fantasyland. I’m guessing primarily because of location.

In retrospect New Fantasyland marked the end of interactive queues and the big push to either have new rides or renovate existing attractions to include them. Since Dumbo moved to this corner of the park, I find it easy to forget it's there. Part of the appeal IMO was its central Fantasyland location and now the views from the ride are not as nice. Doubling Dumbo and adding a large indoor queue with space to give kids a chance to play while waiting in long lines feels like an overcorrection in hindsight, because it doesn't seem as busy as it used to be. @lentesta is there any data from before and after the ride moving to suggest this? Could be that much of my time in MK in the past 10+ years has been during MNSSHP when lines for all rides are lower.
