Italy Pavilion Bell Tower Refurbishment - February 2025
Posted: Thursday February 27, 2025 7:00am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The tower in the Italy pavilion at EPCOT is currently undergoing refurbishment, with scaffolding and a protective scrim now covering the structure. Disney has not provided details on the scope of the work or an estimated completion date. These types of refurbishments typically focus on exterior touch-ups such as painting and masonry repairs.

The tower is a replica of St. Mark's Campanile, the iconic bell tower of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy. The original structure in Venice dates back to the 12th century and serves as one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. EPCOT's version stands at the entrance to the Italy pavilion, welcoming guests into a space inspired by Italian cities, including Venice and Florence. The pavilion's architecture also includes influences from Rome, with columns, fountains, and detailed facades reminiscent of Italian Renaissance design.

Pavilion Remains Open

Despite the refurbishment, the rest of the Italy pavilion remains open, including Via Napoli and Tutto Italia Ristorante.

From afar across the water without before the picture it appeared like Duloc's castle from Shrek.

Themed scrims went up overnight (3/14), meaning scaffolding is complete at this point and actual work will begin soon on the tower.

Could bring BOTH Alice and Toad over. ;) They'd definitely need to replace the outside bit with something though...

    makes sense

The photo scrims never get installed until the scaffolding is fully constructed and finalized. Not saying this will definitely get one. But if it is getting one it wouldn’t be up yet.

Alice is partially built on top of Mr Toad. I don't think a simple copy/paste would work. Plus the whole appeal of Alice's exterior section was the original narrow track that has been rendered largely pointless and wouldn't work as well in Florida's rainy climate.

A couple copy past Disneyland dark rides would work wonders for world showcase. They require minimal staffing and the designs already exist. Pinocchio in Italy and Alice or Mr Toad in UK please.

Would love to see a Pinocchio dark ride or Luca boat journey in Italy Pavilion.

Interesting camera distortion effect. For a second there I thought they had swapped the tower with a painted flat. Kinda cool.

gotcha, for awhile there it just seemed like it was always on them

I feel like that has generally been situational and is only really a guarantee when on or near something iconic (e.g. Cinderella's castle, a Main Street facade, etc.).

that and its muddy dark paint job, its made it look smaller and is not at all legit to the real one like it use to be, whoever got control of that pavilion at Disney is bad they seem to think its part of AK...... I'm surprised the Italy scrim does not have the image of the tower on it, the scrims use to match what they were covering.
