Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom closed today, January 6, 2025, for its scheduled annual refurbishment.

The water-based river rafting attraction typically undergoes maintenance each winter for routine refurbishment. Disney has yet to announce an official reopening date, but has said it is planned to reopen mid-March 2025.

That's some conspiratorial thinking, right there. It's the annual winter refurb. Who wants to ride a rapids ride during the height of winter? I rode it in December once and got completely soaked. I was miserable. I couldn't get back to my room quick enough for a hot shower and change of clothes. I always wonder....is it a refurb for real, or is it closed because of low ridership and cash needed to staff and operate? Is the refurb really not as long, they just keep it closed longer?

Disney has added the following refurbishment timeline on the Kali River Rapids page: Kali River Rapids will temporarily close for refurbishment on January 6, 2025, and is expected to reopen in March 2025.

I know this is the standard time to take KRR down, but I can't help but wonder if they'll do small refurbishes on the other rides at AK following Kali reopening to get them working for when Bugs Life and DINOSAUR are closed.
