Disney has today announced more details on the upcoming Tiana's Bayou Adventure attraction coming to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in late 2024, including news on animatronics and the appearance of Mama Odie.

As depicted in this newly released rendering above, Mama Odie jokes with guests along their journey after a special display of her magic. The two-hundred-year-old Bayou Fairy Godmother, with her eccentric belongings and “seeing eye snake,” Juju, is comically eccentric, yet wise and all-knowing, throughout the adventure. Actress Jenifer Lewis, who starred as the voice of Mama Odie in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Princess and the Frog,” is once again returning to her role for the attraction.

Other new details announced for today for Tiana's Bayou Adventure include:

  • Brand-new cast of original Disney characters with distinct names and personalities
  • Dozens of entirely new Audio-Animatronics figures
  • Adorable critters with incredible talent, bringing the diverse flavors of musical gumbo found in New Orleans!
  • New, original music alongside favorite tunes from the film
  • Alluring scent of beignets being prepared for the party will be part of the attraction queue!
  • Additional talent voices from the film reprising their roles, including Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and the one and only Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana
  • Familiar faces from the film such as Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, Louis, Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia and Prince Ralphie

Disney also announced today that Splash Mountain at Disneyland park will be closed starting May 31, 2023.

This looks like one of those magazine covers you could get at Pleasure Island in the early 90’s.

Anecdotally, people I visit with avoided Splash late because they didn't want to get wet when there was no sun to dry them off. Edited by mod - So people might not want to get wet on TBA after sundown. I don't want your post to be reported as OT. ;)

My hope is that it goes standby every night after 9pm or so.

You don’t think that’s just because all lines shorten at 9 pm?

You say this, but if history is to be believed for any and all water rides in central Florida, they still drop in demand after the sun goes down. It has less to do with the temperature, and more with the fact that the sun dries out your clothes. People don’t want to ride home (or watch the fireworks) soggy.

Just FYI, boarding procedures, opening dates, etc all fall under the latest details and construction progress part of the thread title. So discussing how guests can access this ride is OK.

Doesn't the ride shut down for weather/lightning? VQ is the "chance" to ride if/when your boarding is called. With weather they could 'by chance' not get to all the boarding groups; and that's the chance you take when you book it and may be more expected/outlined. If you booked a timeslot and weather shuts it down it would be treated different, possibly with one of those "anytime" fast passes, but possibly not even for TBA. I'm sure it would have some kind of stipulation just like VQ would; but I think people treat the "but I booked a specific time" a lil differently than waiting for their number to be called (Hopefully that makes sense, I couldn't think how to word it well)

Fair enough. And looks as if, with the lack of ILL, everybody is going to be playing the G+ and/or VQ 7am button dance each morning, at least until things settle down.

ToTBellHop2 hours ago

Yeah that’s likely part of it. No sense in giving it ILL only to remove it a couple months later.

Probably with BTMRR being down just after Tiana opens to increase throughput of guests. If it weren't closing, Tiana would probably have added ILL like Tron and GOTG.

D23 preview details:

No one would recommend booking a flight for this opportunity. Just wait two weeks until it’s open daily to all. As with DVC, the rationale behind this move is to select guests who actually plan to be in the park and aren’t haphazardly grabbing a preview pass “just in case.”

I’d love to hear the internal rationale for going to VQ during AP previews, vs. the previous previews during which one could select specific dates and times. This really handicaps out of town APs. So, even though I have an AP and was lucky enough to snag a park reservation during the system meltdown, I could spend $ to fly down and stay, and still not get on? While locals could secure multiple park reservations, and ride multiple times during the previews. I guess the previous system had its own problems, with a lot of APs not being able to secure preview times. Just seems odd to not limit previews to one ride (apparently).

Looks like Tron will be staying on VQ, unless something changes within the next month (which I doubt). They are adding TBA to the regular Genie+ lineup, so adding Tron to that also wouldn't make much sense (to Disney) and it will keep being ILL along with SDMT. And having 2 VQs in the same park isn't that uncommon. The app and VQ backend API can handle it.
