As Tropical Storm Milton continues to intensify and approach Florida, Walt Disney World Resort has released a statement to assure guests that the resort is closely monitoring the storm's path.
Although the storm is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane and potentially impact central Florida by midweek, the resort remains operational for the time being.
Disney's Official Statement
In its public statement, Walt Disney World emphasized that the safety of both Guests and Cast Members is their highest priority. The statement reads:
"Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions. We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our Guests and Cast Members."
This announcement comes as Tropical Storm Milton is expected to intensify into a Category 3 hurricane by Monday and approach Florida's west coast by Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Current Park Operations
As of now, Walt Disney World Resort is functioning under normal operations, but guests should be aware that conditions could change quickly depending on the storm's progress.
Walt Disney World has already blocked theme park reservations for Wednesday, October 9, signaling that precautionary measures are being taken ahead of the storm's potential impact.
Storm Forecast and Preparedness
Tropical Storm Milton is currently moving east-southeast at 6 mph and is expected to accelerate toward Florida in the coming days. It is forecasted to become a hurricane later today and could reach major hurricane status by Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
With sustained winds expected to exceed 115 mph, central Florida, including the Walt Disney World area, may experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding as the storm makes landfall.
