'Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga' Projection Show
Posted: Friday March 28, 2025 10:40am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Disney has shared a first look at Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga, the new projection show debuting tonight in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park. The show is part of the limited-time Season of the Force event, running from March 28 through May 11, 2025.

Tonight’s performances are scheduled for 9:00 PM and 10:15 PM.

Shadows of Memory uses projection mapping and music to bring iconic moments from the Skywalker saga to life. The Batuu landscape near the Millennium Falcon is transformed as scenes and characters from the Star Wars films are projected onto the spires, all set to a musical score built from familiar John Williams themes. Guests can expect to see imagery evoking the rise, fall, and legacy of Anakin, Luke, and Leia.

Disney also released a first look at the Luke Skywalker character appearance, a surprise addition to Galaxy’s Edge for this year’s event. This marks the first time a classic-era version of Luke Skywalker is meeting guests in the land. The character wears Jedi robes and appears at select times throughout the day for limited-time meet and greets.

Both offerings are exclusive to Season of the Force and are expected to run through May 11, although the projection show may be extended. No word yet on if either experience will be added to Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

It's like a black version of Obiwan's robes in RotS

Looking at the pictures again I guess the galaxy’s edge one is a bit more layered then the outfit from the film as shown in the still @Disney Analyst posted above?

You are meeting the everyman of the Hero's Journey of the series as a look-alike, and nothing against the young man playing the part the best he can, but it is not a lot of looks and mannerisms going for the character paired with not being a dead ringer, a lot of the thrill is gone. Another nice touch, but not a wow. There are reasons that you can draw examples of major and minor theme park attractions having the supporting cast with extreme traits in the experience or venue, and you as the everyman entering the venue. Meeting just about any other character than the everyman is more exciting to most in terms of material.

It's very different from the Return of the Jedi version. The ROTJ version buttons on the left much like the star fleet uniforms in Star Trek do. The GE version is a black version of traditional Jedi robes. You can see the difference in these two figures.

Minus the cape I’m really not seeing a difference.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. The hair and robe looks indistinguishable from his look in return of the Jedi.

It's not the face it's the bad wig and costume. None of which look like Luke. I guess its from his 1 minute Mandalorian appearance instead of the Luke people have known for 50 years. Disney has to promote their own star wars.

Wonderful show. Can’t wait to see this in person, with an audience as I am sure it is ten times better. But the general look and vibe I am getting from this early video capture is great stuff. For us Star Wars nerds, this hits the right spot emotionally…especially the end. Very well done. I like to decision to limit the use of straight up movie clip scenes. The projection ‘gimmick’ of just throwing up movie video clips on the walls..or in this case the spires….has been done to death at this point. This approach, of using limited movement figures and silloettes is far more effective for a presentation like this. Gives it a feel of being a told a ‘fireside story’ by the bard with still images then just yet another Disney movie ‘clip show’. The subtle movements work effectively to convey scenes from the films we all already know. A appreciated choice, from me. Also the transition scenes and overall projection effects are very effective here. I love Disneyland. This reminds me yet again why. ♥️ -

Did you take this picture yourself?

    Oh brother

They were never gonna find someone that looked convincingly like Mark Hammil. Mark’s face is too distinctive to do what they do with most face characters and I’m sure that’s why they held off for as long as they did. The projection show looks amazing though. Very well done.
