Disney announces opening for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World and a first look at new animatronics

Disney announced today that Tiana's Bayou Adventure will open to guests at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in the summer of 2024 and at Disneyland later in 2024.

Splash Mountain had its last day of operation on January 22, 2023, and a summer opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure represents an impressive timeline for the reimagining effort, months ahead of the original "late 2024" announcement.

The earliest and most optimistic estimates place opening around Memorial Day (late May) at Magic Kingdom, but Disney has yet to make any announcement beyond "Summer 2024."

There will also likely be various rounds of previews for Cast Members, Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, Club 33, and it remains to be seen how the soft openings will fit into the timeline.

Disney also today shared a first look at the Tiana audio-animatronic that will be part of the attraction and also confirmed that there will be dozens of entirely new Audio-Animatronics figures. Along with Princess Tiana, Louis and Mama Odie, we will also see Eudora, Charlotte, Prince Ralphie, Prince Naveen, and others.

The "coming soon" posters surrounding Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom have also now been updated to include the new Summer 2024 opening.

With Princess Tiana at the helm, this new attraction “digs a little deeper” into her story after the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Princess and the Frog.” It is Mardi Gras season at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the bayou will light up for a journey full of music, Mama Odie’s magic, and a whole boatful – log-ful? – of new friends, in preparation for a celebration where everyone’s welcome.

The live action definitely doubled down on the 18th century time setting in everything but Belle's golden gown which was clearly set inn like 1940...So odd they did not use the Anne Hould-Ward designs from the Broadway production....which was spectacular...and time period appropriate.

I’m in agreement with that general sentiment, as I thought was clear from my posts. As to the plague storyline, there actually was an outbreak of the disease in eighteenth-century France, though I’m not sure the filmmakers knew that, and—to your point—they certainly don’t try to portray it with any accuracy.

Just pointing out that you can't bind pieces of media, especially those created as Fairy Tales for families/kids, in historical restraints. The Black Plague storyline was one of the many problems with the live action remake.

I imagine you’re joking, but if you’re not, the inclusion of the Eiffel Tower is a clear anachronism designed to indicate the place but not the timeframe. It’s comparable to the sculptor working on the Sphinx during “A Whole New York”—he is meant to tell us that Aladdin and Jasmine are travelling through Egypt, but he’s about 4000 years (!) out of date.

But the inclusion of the Eifel Tower means it takes place a bare minimum of 100 years after the French Revolution, since the FR was 1789 and the Eifel Tower opened in 1889. Funny piece of history, the Eifel Tower is why we now have the Ferris Wheel, as it was conceived as a structure that would rival the Eifel Tower being built for the 1889 Worlds Faire when America decided to host their own just a few years after.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure has been added to the internal attractions system for Magic Kingdom cast members and is listed along with all the other operating attractions such as Winnie the Pooh and Tomorrowland Speedway. Listed as Standby (Not Available) but does that mean that it'll operate with standby instead of VQ? Who knows. Either way, this means that CM previews are starting very soon.
