1 July 2008: Disney’s Oak Trail golf course
added to Premium Annual Passes and Water Park Fun & More option of Magic
Your Way Tickets
Disney have added the 9 hole golf course to
Premium Annual Passes and some Magic Your Way Tickets. This seems to be
in response to the loss of Pleasure Island club entry once that closes
in September of this year. Here is the full release from Disney.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Disney’s Oak Trail golf
course, a relaxed, nine-hole walking course designed for the entire
family, has been added as an entitlement on select Walt Disney World
tickets.
The ticket entitlement, which covers green fees,
has been added to the Water Park Fun & More option of Magic Your Way
Tickets and to Premium Annual Passes.
The nine-hole, par-36 Oak Trail course, located
adjacent to Shades of Green along with Disney’s Magnolia and Palm golf
courses, plays at 2,913 yards (2,552 yards from the front tees). It
features undulating target greens. Holes range from 132 yards to a
517-yard, double dogleg par five that Disney pros regard as one of the
more interesting and challenging of Disney’s 81 holes of golf.
Oak Trail, which was designed by well-known course
architect Ron Garl, is considered perfect for both the developing golfer
and the experienced player – ideal for a family outing or a quick nine.
Tee times are required and subject to availability and may be made by
calling
407/WDW-GOLF or by visiting disneyworldgolf.com.
The Water Park Fun & More option now includes
admissions to Blizzard Beach water park, Typhoon Lagoon water park,
DisneyQuest, Pleasure Island, Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and
Disney’s Oak Trail golf course. The number of admissions to the guest’s
selection of attractions varies from two to 10 depending upon the number
of days on the Magic Your Way ticket. Cost of the Water Park Fun & More
option is $50 on all Magic Your Way tickets.
With the Premium Annual Pass, guests have
unlimited admission for 365 days from the purchase date (except to
activities/events separately priced) to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s
Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DisneyQuest, Disney’s water
parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon), Disney’s Oak Trail golf
course, Pleasure Island, and Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, as
well as complimentary parking.

13 May 2008: Disney's Wide World of Sports
Complex to be rebranded with ESPN
NEW YORK (May 13, 2008) -- Aligning the world's
No. 1 family vacation destination with the worldwide leader in sports,
Walt Disney World Resort and ESPN are joining forces to re-brand
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex with the ESPN brand, creating an
entertaining and immersive experience for the nearly 2 million athletes,
coaches and spectators who come through the Disney sports complex each
year.
Plans for the re-branding initiative -- which was announced today during
the ESPN upfront presentation to advertisers and sponsors -- are still
in the development stage, but initial concepts involve renaming the
sports complex and incorporating the signature elements of ESPN
throughout the 220-acre facility, which is a leading venue for amateur
and professional sports in the country. The project aims to enhance the
experience of both athletes and spectators by connecting them to their
favorite ESPN programs, personalities and elements. It also will provide
advertisers new sponsorship opportunities at the grass roots level.
"This is a natural and exciting pairing of two powerful brands to create
a one-of-a-kind, immersive sports venue that will enable athletes,
coaches and guests to experience sports in a whole new way," said Jay
Rasulo, chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts. "This project builds on
our collaborative successes and positions us to explore more
opportunities with ESPN to create new experiences for guests at Walt
Disney World Resort."
"Our involvement in the Disney sports complex will provide greater
opportunities for us to connect directly with athletes, coaches and fans
in a highly immersive way," said George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN
Inc. and ABC Sports, and co-chairman of Disney Media Networks. "Our
involvement also provides us with a unique and exciting new media
platform that will enable our advertisers and sponsors to reach new
customers and bring their products and services to life.''
The re-branding of the Disney sports complex is the latest initiative in
the growing sports business at Walt Disney World Resort. In December,
the sports complex debuted additional outdoor playing fields for
football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey competitions. And this
summer the sports complex will open Jostens Center, a new
state-of-the-art field house that will allow Disney to accommodate twice
as many indoor sports events each year. Additional expansion plans are
being explored.
The Disney sports complex annually hosts more than 180 events in 50
different sports involving athletes from more than 70 countries. Among
those events are the Atlanta Braves spring training season, a Tampa Bay
Rays regular-season series, the Major League Baseball Draft, the NBA
Pre-Draft Camp, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, Chelsea Football
Club events, the Pop Warner Super Bowl, AAU National Championships,
Varsity All-Star Cheerleading competitions, USSSA events and the Walt
Disney World Marathon, one of the top marathons in the nation. ESPN
televised 20 sporting events from the complex in the last year. Walt
Disney World Resort and ESPN also annually work together to host the
popular ESPN The Weekend event at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, are the splash-tastic
choice. Thanks to an all-new Disney WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)
site, adults and their kids can immerse themselves in Disney water parks
magic before, during and after they actually visit the parks -- and all

from artist Jesse LeDoux, get insider tips and take an interactive
personality quiz and more. One feature stars actor-singer Corbin Bleu.
He had such water parks fun he was happy to express his glee to his
legions of fans through their cell phones.
How to get the fun rolling? Guests have three options:
- In their Disney Resort hotel room, guests can
view a video and text H20 to SPLASH (775274). Then their cell phone
rings with a message from Corbin Bleu plus a link to the WAP.
- Before arriving, a guest can text H2O to
SPLASH on their cell and get a call from Corbin.
- Guests familiar with texting on their cell
phones can send a picture of their favorite attraction at the water
parks to disney@splash.com to receive a special mobile wallpaper.
Guests can access a number of interactive features
including tips to "surf" Disney's Typhoon Lagoon or "ski" at Disney's

The format remains similar, in that you place your
order at a register, pay for the food, and are then given a numbered
sign. However, at this point, it then differs from the previous setup. A
waiter greets you, and personally takes you to a table for your party
size. The waiter takes away your table number sign, and brings you any
fountain beverages, and later, your food. The same waiter remains
assigned to you, and brings any refills etc during your meal. The
restaurant is now more table service than it was previously, but still
retains similar pricing, and the walk-up convenience of counter service.

The restaurant is a considerable improvement over
it's previous version, the new decor is excellent, the food as always,
is top notch, and once again it becomes one of the best dining locations
at Downtown Disney.

9 January 2008: Disney looking at using
Nintendo DS systems as an interactive guide map?
Over the past few days Imagineering have
apparently been testing out some interesting new technology to help
guests during their days in the parks. Remember back in the summer of
2006 when Disney were trialling a Kim Possible "Kimmunicator" game using
custom PDAs (see
the update here - 15 August 2006)? Well it seems now that Disney are
looking once again at giving guests an electronic assistant as they
visit the parks. This time however, it seems that Disney are looking at
allowing guests to use a
Nintendo DS as
the hardware for the system. Disney are not strangers to using DS
systems within parks. Back in the summer of 2007 Disney had a program
where guests could bring in their DS to access customised content from
Pirates of the Caribbean in the Magic Kingdom. With this new system
however, the DS would serve as your interactive guide map. For example,
you can click on the individual lands in the park and see instantly all
the wait times. Let's use Liberty Square as an example. When you click
on Liberty Square it will bring the land into full view. You can click
on the Haunted Mansion and instantly see that it's wait time is twenty
minutes. Click on the Liberty Tree Tavern and you can get a summary of
their menu. It doesn't take much imagination to realise this would be a
wonderful system for guests. If all goes well, it is expected that a
limited guest trial may be underway within the next few months. As
always, this is speculation, and may be subject to change.
10 January 2008: Search For First-Ever Disney
Parks CMO Is On
Burbank, Ca., January 8, 2008 – Do you wish your
M.D. really stood for “Magic Director?” Or perhaps that your Ph.D. had
something to do with Pixie Dust? As millions of Americans resolve to
search for a new job this New Year, Disney Parks may have just the
position they’ve been waiting for!
To prove that making dreams come true is no longer reserved for fairy
godmothers, CareerBuilder.com today launched the search for the
first-ever Disney Parks Chief Magic Official (CMO) who will spread magic
during The Year of a Million Dreams.
The search for the CMO is part of The Year of a Million Dreams, where
this year more than one million more dreams will be granted to guests at
Disney Parks. This celebration includes incredible new attractions,
parades, interactive entertainment and much more!
“We’re looking for that perfect someone to serve alongside our talented
Cast of dream makers,” said Craig Dezern, Vice President, Global Public
Relations, Disney Parks. “The CMO will serve as an ambassador of dreams
to help create the magic that only Disney can bring to its guests.”
"Whatever you dreamed of being when you were growing up, chances are
some of your plans hit a snag along the way," said Richard Castellini, a
spokesperson for CareerBuilder.com. "In fact, in a recent survey of over
6,000 workers, only 15 percent said they were actually in their dream
jobs. The Disney Parks CMO will have the unique opportunity to live out
his or her dream and bring a little magic to the lives of others."
Do You have the Character to be the CMO?
Beginning May 1, 2008, the part-time CMO will help create magical
experiences for guests, participate in special events at Disney Parks
and meet Disney’s real “masters of magic” – the Imagineers.
The ideal CMO candidate must be happy, never grumpy; able to easily
befriend dwarfs, dogs, monsters and mice; have good manners – but also
be able to pillage and plunder with pirates when necessary. Also
required: pockets full of pixie dust, an aversion to poisonous apples,
an interest in oversized teacups and flying elephants and, most
importantly, a belief in all things magical.
The position will require travel, including travel to Disneyland and
Walt Disney World Resorts, during the week and some weekends and
holidays. While traveling as the Disney Parks CMO, he/she will receive
an hourly rate of compensation for hours spent performing the CMO role,
as well as airfare, accommodations and a spending allowance.
“The CMO position is an opportunity of a lifetime for someone who has
always wanted to be part of the Disney family,” said Dezern. “We will
look for the ideal candidate to be naturally outgoing and optimistic,
and have a great sense of humor as well as a passion for spreading
Disney magic to our guests.”
Show Your DISNEY Magic
Beginning January 8 and continuing through January 27, interested
applicants can visit www.DreamCMO.com
and take the “Magic Aptitude Test” (M.A.T.) to see if they have what it
takes to be the first-ever Disney Parks Chief Magic Official. Along with
the results of the M.A.T., candidates will be asked to show their Disney
magic by submitting a 60 second video resume – online at
www.DreamCMO.com – which captures
their personality and visually and verbally supports why they would make
the ideal CMO.
Mickey’s Apprentice
A magical panel of judges will select the top 10 video resumes, which
will be posted to www.DreamCMO.com
and voted on by America. The top three vote-getters will take part in a
three-day event at Walt Disney World Resort that will test their
creativity, enthusiasm, knowledge of the Parks and magic aptitude.
Throughout the three-day event, candidates will be videotaped and the
videos will be posted on
www.DreamCMO.com to be voted on by America. The top vote-getter will
be named the Disney Parks Chief Magic Official.

original content and Journey TV joins a stable of ad-supported on-demand
environments that last year alone generated over 13 million views. Our
customers have demonstrated a real appreciation for informative
programming and Journey TV delivers."
"Cablevision's interactive fiber optic network makes it possible for a
wide range of businesses to use VOD programming to reach customers in
new and innovative ways," said Barry Frey, Cablevision's senior vice
president of advanced platform sales. "Disney Travel on Demand is a
perfect example of a preeminent brand using our advanced platform to
have a powerful dialogue with consumers through the television."
Disney Parks' Technology -- Enhancing the Overall Guest Experience
Walt Disney was a pioneer in leveraging the television medium to
showcase his resorts. More than 50 years ago, he introduced the nation
to Disneyland Park, even while it was under construction, through the
popular Disneyland series that aired on ABC-TV. Once the park was open,
Disney continued to promote the park and showcase its attractions
through broadcasts originating from inside Disneyland Park.
The launch of Disney Travel on Demand is just one step in a series of
new media launches that highlight the latest technologies incorporated
into Disney Parks. Whether it is cable, wireless, online or through the
iPod, the Walt Disney Company has cast itself as a leader in using new
technologies to forge connections with consumers. Disney Parks continues
to exemplify how technologies can be used to build new connections --
from the time consumers begin planning their vacation on
www.disneyparks.com, to personalizing and sharing their Disney
experiences when they return home, using DisneyLink, a desktop
application.

way for Walt Disney World guests to choose their Star Wars destiny -- be
it Jedi or Sith -- and live their adventure inspired by a galaxy far,
far away.
Now open at the Once Upon a Toy store at Downtown Disney Marketplace is
the "Build Your Own Lightsaber" kiosk, a step-by-step, Star Wars
merchandise experience that invites guests to build custom lightsabers
with thousands of unique possibilities.
The experience takes guests through nine steps in which they choose
every part of their lightsaber, including the color of the blade, sleeve
rings, hilt sleeves and ignition switches.
Each lightsaber features authentic Star Wars sound effects, and guests
can select colored crystals and filters to cast the legendary glow of
the lightsaber blade (purple, green, red or blue).
From the start, guests opt for a Jedi or Sith lightsaber, with bins of
custom parts available for each order. Guests can create their very own
design or follow instructions to replicate lightsabers used by such
favorite Star Wars characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and
Darth Vader. Each electronic lightsaber features specialized lights,
sounds and vibrations.
Once complete, guests proceed to checkout where they receive batteries
to power up their creation and a store-exclusive Jedi or Sith pin.
No matter how elaborate the design -- guests can even create the
double-bladed lightsaber like the one made famous by the evil Sith
apprentice, Darth Maul -- each completed lightsaber is $19.95.
The "Build Your Own Lightsaber" display is the latest in customizable
merchandise experiences at Once Upon a Toy, joining the "Build Your Own
Potato Head" and "Create Your Own My Little Pony" areas.
28 March 2007: Wide World of Sports
celebrates 10 years with expansion announcement
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 28, 2007) -- Hailed
as the leading venue for amateur sports in the world, Disney's Wide
World of Sports Complex celebrated its 10th anniversary Wednesday,
punctuating a decade of making kids' sports dreams come true and
reveling in the complex's expansive future.
Former LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell, Buccaneers linebacker Shelton
Quarles and Braves pitcher Tim Hudson, who are among the more than 1.5
million athletes who have competed at the complex during its 10-year
history, were on hand for the event, which was highlighted by the
unveiling of additional details of the complex's new Jostens Center, set
to open in summer 2008. As part of the event, the sports stars stepped
out of the pages of a life-size Jostens memory book to tell their
personal stories of competing and training at Disney's Wide World of
Sports Complex during the past decade.

COPYRIGHT 2007. THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY
"From the very beginning, we have been about the kids, so we are
extremely proud that so many young athletes at Disney's Wide World of
Sports Complex these past 10 years have experienced those exhilarating
moments that occur when your sports dreams come true,'' said Reggie
Williams, vice president of Disney Sports Attractions.
"We have far exceeded our original goals. And now, with the addition of
the Jostens Center, we are uniquely positioned for the kind of future
growth and expansion that will allow millions and millions of other kids
to compete and train at the highest levels in an environment that is
unlike any other in the world.''
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex officially opened on March 28,
1997, with a spring training game between the Atlanta Braves and the
Cincinnati Reds. Since then, the 220-acre complex has attracted many of
the biggest names in amateur and professional sports, including Tiger
Woods, Serena Williams, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Mia Hamm, Derek
Jeter, Chipper Jones and Andre Agassi, among others. And hundreds of
athletes, such as Rockets center Yao Ming, Chargers tight end Antonio
Gates, MLS soccer sensation Freddy Adu and NBA star Elton Brand competed
at the sports complex as youths en route to realizing their sports
dreams of playing professionally.
"The place is amazing,'' said tennis mega-star Serena Williams, who
participated in the Elton John Smash Hit event at the complex. "It had
just opened when Venus and I played there back in 1997, but with all of
the courts and fields and baseball diamonds they have, you could tell it
was going to be a place where every kid would jump at the chance to play
there.''
Initially anchored by renowned sports organizations such as the AAU, Pop
Warner Little Scholars and the Braves, the sports complex at Walt Disney
World Resort has quickly blossomed and now hosts more than 180 events
featuring 30 different sports each year, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers
training camp, Atlanta Braves spring training, the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, a
Tampa Bay Devil Rays-Texas Rangers regular-season series, the Pop Warner
Super Bowl, the Tom Shaw Performance Enhancement program, the Old Spice
Classic college basketball tournament and various AAU National
Championship events.
"Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex offers the highest-quality
facilities for NBA staff, coaches, and general managers to conduct our
annual NBA Pre-Draft Camp,'' NBA Commissioner David Stern said. "As you
might expect from Disney, the complex provides an extraordinary venue
for aspiring players to showcase their talent."
In 2005, Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex recorded its One
Millionth Athlete - Desirre Wilkerson, a 13-year-old volleyball player
from Louisville, Ky., who served as honorary grand marshal in the "Share
a Dream Come True" parade at the Magic Kingdom theme park along with her
teammates and coaches.
"The sports complex was great,'' said Philadelphia Eagles quarterback
Donovan McNabb, who competed at the complex in 1999. "It was a
first-class experience when I was there in 1999 for the NFL Players
Rookie Premiere. If I was a kid again, I'd love to play there.''
The Jostens Center will be a state-of-the-art multi-sport field house
similar to The Milk House, thus allowing the sports complex to
potentially double the number of indoor sports events that it hosts
annually. At more than 75,000 square feet, the center will house six
NCAA regulation size basketball courts, 12 regulation size volleyball
courts, two roller hockey rinks, four locker rooms, two conference rooms
and two officials' rooms. In addition, the center will have several
unique spaces within the facility to showcase its heritage and
capabilities.
Jostens will also become an Official Sponsor of events at Disney's Wide
World of Sports Complex and will offer personalized memory books and
Internet services to help recognize achievements and preserve memories
for teams and athletes at the sports complex.
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex remains a world-class sports
destination where all athletes, especially kids, can experience athletic
opportunities that they will cherish forever, whether they conclude
their athletic careers at Disney or even if they are gifted enough to
advance to the highest levels of competitive sports.
Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex offers a pair of signature
facilities in The Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, a
two-tiered 7,500-seat retro baseball ballpark, and The Milk House, a
5,500-seat old-style indoor field house. Other sports complex venues
include: the Hess Sports Fields (multi-purpose fields and diamonds), a
baseball quadraplex, a track & field complex, a six-field softball
complex and a 10-court tennis facility (with center court stadium).

1 March 2007: Disney announces resort
expansions
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., March 1 /PRNewswire/ --
Walt Disney World Resort today announced two new projects as part of an
expansion plan for the resort in Central Florida: a new 900-acre luxury
resort anchored by the prestigious Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and a
450-acre retail, dining and lodging district on the western edge of the
Disney resort. "These projects are first-of-a-kind for Walt Disney World
and we are thrilled to be able to bring Four Seasons to our resort,"
said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort. "Families
around the globe know they can trust Disney to deliver magical
experiences and Four Seasons to offer exceptional service and amenities.
Combined, this is a huge win for devotees of both brands and for Central
Florida," said Crofton.
LUXURY DESTINATION RESORT - NORTHEAST RESORT AREA
Along the northeast border of Walt Disney World Resort, Disney plans to
convert its Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge golf courses into a luxury
resort and golf community. The development will include a luxury hotel,
18-hole championship golf course, single- and multi-family vacation
homes and
fractional ownership vacation homes. Disney entered into a letter of
intent with Four Seasons Hotels and
Resorts to bring these two complementary and respected brands together
to anchor a new world-class family resort destination. Four Seasons is
dedicated to perfecting the travel experience through continuous
innovation and the highest standards of hospitality. Currently with 74
hotels in 31 countries, and more than 25 properties under development,
Four Seasons continues to lead the hospitality industry with innovative
enhancements, making business travel easier and leisure travel more
rewarding. The deeply instilled Four Seasons culture is personified in
its employees -- people who share a single focus and are inspired to
offer great service. Four Seasons currently operates two properties in
Florida,
Four Seasons Hotel Miami and the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. "The
Resort will have all the ingredients needed to create memorable
vacations: gracious and caring staff; beautiful surroundings that are
thoughtfully designed; and services and amenities that make every
experience one to cherish," said Kathleen Taylor, president and chief
operating officer, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. "It's an honor to
collaborate with Walt Disney World Resort on this project. Walt Disney's
reputation for service excellence and exceptional family entertainment
amenities is an ideal complement to the values of Four Seasons. Central
Florida will be a valuable addition to our family of resorts,
particularly since this is a destination our guests already enjoy." Once
terms of the project are finalized, site work could begin later this
year, with a hotel opening forecasted for 2010.
VALUE-ORIENTED DESTINATION - MIXED-USE TOURISM
DISTRICT
On the western edge of the resort, Disney is planning a mixed-use
tourist commercial district just outside Disney's gateway entrance. The
master-planned development is comparable in size to Disney's Animal
Kingdom. The project combines third-party branded lodging, retail and
dining in a pedestrian-friendly environment and will be another example
of Disney's commitment to unique placemaking. Located outside Disney's
gateway around the interchange where Western Way meets the Western
Beltway, early development plans include 4,000 - 5,000 low- to mid-rise,
value-priced lodging units and 300,000 - 500,000 square feet of
commercial space. Designed around a retail village, the development will
become a convenient shopping and service center for Cast Members, nearby
residents and Central
Florida visitors. The project is currently in the design stage. Site
work and branding is anticipated to begin later this year. The project
will be built in phases over the next 8 - 10 years.

9 January 2007: Walt Disney World Marathon
results
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 7, 2007) -- In what
has almost become a Disney tradition, Brazilian Adriano Bastos ran away
with his fourth Walt Disney World Marathon title, becoming the first
runner ever in the event's 14-year history to win four races and sweep
three in a row. Bastos, 28, of Sao Paulo, posted a time of 2:19:24,
nearly 13 minutes faster than his closest competitor.
In the women's field, Gabriela Trana of Costa Rica, running her first
marathon ever, pulled away down the stretch to win the women's title.
She crossed the finish line at 2:57:03, just ahead of Christa Benton of
St. Petersburg, Fla. (2:57:25) and Elizabete Cruz of Sao Paulo, Brazil
(2:59:38).
In the wheelchair division, Renzo Martinez of Boca Raton, Fla., streaked
to a third consecutive victory with a time of 2:24:34, followed by Rick
Thigpen of Murfreesboro, Tenn., at 2:58:55.
Also, Mary Peters, of St. Augustine, Fla., became the 100,000th finisher
in the event's history, finishing with a time of 4:50:19.
As Peters crossed the finish line, race officials surprised her with a
special award ceremony, replete with confetti and celebratory music. She
was presented a one-of-a-kind, oversized marathon medal and
commemorative Mickey Mouse Ears. In addition, Peters was awarded a
complete 2008 Disney Marathon vacation package, including airfare,
accommodations at a Disney hotel, meals, Disney theme park tickets, a
VIP party and entry into both the 2008 Walt Disney World Half Marathon
and 2008 Walt Disney World Marathon races.
Like last year, Bastos was virtually unchallenged over the 26.2-mile
course through all four Disney theme parks, grabbing the lead at the
start and never relinquishing it. Matthew Dobson, the West Florida
University head track coach in Pensacola, Fla., was a distant second
(2:32:22), followed by Roy Vargas of Costa Rica (2:33:42).
Bastos, who has become known for his unique and colorful hair styles he
sported in past Disney Marathons, had this year's hair style -- braids
in Brazilian-flag-inspired colors of yellow and green -- done by
Disney's Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a Downtown Disney salon that
specializes in "magical makeovers." Also new to Bastos this year are two
Mickey Mouse tattoos -- fittingly, one on each leg -- that he received
in February 2006 following the 2006 Disney event.
"I love coming to Disney and feel like I am almost a Disney character
myself," Bastos said through his interpreter.
"It's a very unique feeling knowing that no one else has won this race
so many times," Bastos added. "I love Disney and I love running in this
event."
Trana, 26, provided the most dramatic finish of the day, bolting from
fourth place in the final four miles to challenge for the lead. With
less than a mile to go, she overtook Benton to claim the title.
"I ran really hard at the end," said Trana, whose victory has inspired
her to go after a spot on the Costa Rican team at the 2008 Olympics in
Beijing. "It was so good to win because it was my first marathon and
because it was so much fun running through the different Disney (theme)
parks and seeing everything like Cinderella's castle."
The Walt Disney World Half Marathon was held Jan. 6, 2007. Jarrod
Shoemaker and Melissa White won the men's and women's divisions,
respectively, in the event. Leading a field of more than 12,500 runners,
Shoemaker, 24, of Sudbury, Mass., easily won the 13.1-mile race in
1:10:28. White, 25, of Rochester, Mich., dominated the women's field,
crossing the finish line at 1:15:41 for her second straight Walt Disney
World Half Marathon title.
A record 32,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes registered for
the 2007 Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon. Both events are
among the 10 largest fields at their distance in the country.
For the second time in the event's history, the marathon weekend
included a "Goofy's Race-and-a-Half Challenge" for participants who
competed in both races and the overall 39.3 miles across Walt Disney
World Resort during the two days. The runners who accomplished this
impressive physical challenge received a special Goofy Medal in addition
to the Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse medals, which are awarded to half
marathon and marathon finishers, respectively.
The 2008 event will mark its 15th anniversary and again consist of a
split-day format with the Walt Disney World Half Marathon scheduled for
Jan. 12, 2008 and the Walt Disney World Marathon on Jan. 13, 2008.
Registration for both races opened Jan. 8, 2007.

Marathon or Half Marathon and to view complete searchable race results
