Disney has shared new story details for The Beak and Barrel, the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern set to open later this year in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom. The tavern expands the beloved attraction’s universe and promises an immersive space where pirates of all ages can gather to swap tales and raise a toast to the pirate life.
Meet Captain Merry and Rummy
The tavern was founded by legendary rumrunner Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and her ever-watchful first mate, Rummy. Perched atop the bar, Rummy—an animatronic parrot with deep Disney roots—is the tavern’s quartermaster and storyteller. Fans will recognize him as a clear nod to the original Barker Bird that once welcomed guests at the entrance of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Inside the Tavern: The Mess and Captains’ Quarters
The tavern’s main hall, known as The Mess, is the largest space and was once a mess hall for Spanish soldiers. Now, it features long communal tables, an anchor dripping in candle wax overhead, and a large bar made from the wreckage of a cursed ship. Highlights include a skull-shaped stern filled with grog, the mysterious Enchanted Rum Bottle gifted by Tia Dalma, and frequent appearances by Rummy, who patrols the bar and entertains guests with stories and toasts.
Off to the side, the Captains’ Quarters offer a peek into pirate luxury. Once the residence of a Spanish comandante, the room now tells its own tale of pirate mischief with slashed tapestries, burn marks, and faded spots where stolen portraits once hung. Above the fireplace, five miniature ships in glass bottles are said to represent a global alliance of pirates—and are rumored to magically come alive in battle.
As construction continues, Disney promises more surprises in this first-of-its-kind storytelling space inspired by the iconic attraction. The Beak and Barrel is on track to open in late 2025.
