The new pavement work at the entrance of the Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom now appears to be complete. Crews have finished installing the themed stamped concrete throughout the area, including the final section near the attraction’s entry gates.

The updated surface features a cobblestone-style appearance, and work around the hearse and carriage display has already been completed.

Gives it an aura of foreboding...

Whole area needs redone. The queue area is not great and overcrowded at the front. Adding the new path on the left of yankee trader building also just created a confusing traffic flow. Hope they make some adjustments, will be curious to see what happens over here with the old fast pass building, keel boat docks, and old gift shop and if they will survive all the changes

That really looks like cobblestones. Well done.

Honestly with how much room they could have for a HM queue... I would love them to try something like the dumbo or Jimmy Fallon Queue at USO. Cut the current interactive queue and add in a massive garden/cemetery area that is free roam. Put in some bathrooms and a snack/drink stand to make some great money. Move the interactive gravestones here for the kids, have lots of benches and umbrellas, picnic tables, ect.

Well the Imagineer who spearheaded the changes for Disneyland is retiring so ours might remain.

I'm not saying they need to remove the corpse... however, just because it's been around for 50 years does NOT mean it should stay. Times change, people change, culture changes, values change some things that have been fine for most of human history are no longer viewed as ok now. As a side note, my wife and I are re-watching old seasons of survivor and one of the contestants from season 1 is gay and another of them has multiple children out of wedlock, one of the older contestants "Rudy" says some stuff on the show that 100% would not fly today and this aired only 25 years ago.

They didn't bother explaining how Disneyland's Attic Scene makes sense now either. https://vocal.media/wander/the-history-of-the-heart-of-disney-s-haunted-mansion

I had floated the idea back in 2011 that WDI probably made the queue as obnoxious as possible to encourage more Fastpass+ riders.

I don't think they were attempting to create an "aura of foreboding" at all. What they were trying to do, in my mind, is give the standby folks something to keep them amused and not start throwing objects that the Fastpass line people. There really is nothing foreboding at all about HM. To me it is just the opposite. The entire ride has some creepy music but all the visuals are set up comically as is the queue. The best I can call the HM is sometimes spooky, but mostly cartoonish. Damn good ride but I don't think anyone has died from fear because of the interior.
