Disney has filed a construction permit for work on the new Villains-themed live entertainment show set to debut at Disney's Hollywood Studios in the summer of 2025.

The permit for "General Construction" is assigned to the long-term Disney construction partner, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, valid through September 27, 2025.

This new show will take over the Sunset Showcase on Sunset Boulevard, replacing the current Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy, which is set to close on October 7, 2024. Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy, which opened in March 2019, features a life-sized animatronic Lightning McQueen and high-energy racing sequences from the Cars franchise.

The upcoming villains-themed show is set in the Magic Mirror's mysterious realm, where iconic Disney villains will break through the glass and come to life on stage. Characters such as Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent are already confirmed to make appearances, with live production numbers and immersive special effects promising to bring these notorious figures to life.

Sunset Showcase, which first opened in 2015, has previously hosted a variety of entertainment experiences, including the short-lived Club Disney and special events like Club Villain, a cabaret-style show featuring Disney villains.

I was super excited for Villains Tonight when I went on my first Disney Cruise. It was a huge let down. I was surprised how little I enjoyed that show.

That would make sense. Would probably require extra lighting for that area.

Prep for the Jolly nights "ice" skating?

The amount of drugs Aerosmith probably took in the 70’s and 80’s as rockstars made them feel like they were in the fifth dimension?

It wouldn't be the weirdest thing ever. Nemo has a musical in Animal Kingdom and a whole Pavilion in Epcot. Buzz Lightyear has a solo ride in Magic Kingdom and Toy Story has a whole land in Hollywood Studios. Frozen has/had (can't remember if it's still there) a sing along in Hollywood and it hijacked the Norway section of World Showcase. Star Wars is especially weird with attractions in the exact same park with Star Wars Galaxy Edge yet not part of Galaxy's Edge lol Edit: Not on the same level but Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid have shows in Hollywood Studios and mini sections in Magic Kingdom. It would have made sense build spaces for the shows there and free space for new shows to go into Hollywood Studios but it is what it is now.

That building was designed to be a flex space so they could do different things with it.

Those permits are for the area in front of the Chinese Theater.

🤔. Could just be an upgrade and nothing else though.

This seems exciting! I wonder if this is a way to "test" Villains Land- to see which villains are the most popular with guests, and to see how scary/dark they can get. Maybe there will even be some M&G opportunities! Super pumped for this one 😁

Can we celebrate Disney finally acknowledging Emperor's New Groove's existence? Yzma is featured in the teaser art.
