Back in November 2018, Disney announced that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway would open in fall 2019 as part of the park's 30th anniversary celebration, but that timeline now appears to have slipped.

In an announcement today, Disney confirmed that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway will be opening in Disneyland Resort in 2022, and that the ride will open in Disney's Hollywood Studios in Spring 2020. If you read our forums, you will be aware that this delay has been expected for some time. The resources of Walt Disney Imagineering are spread across a number of projects, and all attention appears to be concentrated on opening the incredibly complex Rise of the Resistance attraction at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.

On Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, you’ll step through the movie screen and join Mickey and his friends like never before. The attraction will put you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short where you’re the star and anything can happen. This zany out-of-control adventure features surprising twists and turns, dazzling visual effects and mind-boggling transformations that happen before your very eyes.

I'm not a fan of the animation style, but for me, it's the best trackless ride in WDW.

It's an okay attraction. A good addition. But it's not groundbreaking or something that sits with you days after.

After spending more time looking back at Railway recently, I can confidently say that it's my favorite ride again. I figured that it would be appropriate to share those stories yesterday for its 5th birthday!

I find them charming. I love the shorts they feature in and I love this ride!

It also includes the creepy "new" Mickey and Minnie.

Not interested in anything about MMRR. Sorry, not sorry. It's a throwaway ADD-fest of an attraction which needlessly replaced a classic.

I really do love this ride. I still just wish it was an addition to the park and not a replacement for GMR.

It seems that 2025 and 2026 are going to be used to do a lot of maintenance that's been desperately needed. With Epic pulling some of the crowds away (it'll certainly still be busy) and no new rides to advertise until 2027, it's a great time to do it!

Glad to see. It has be in absolutely awful condition for the past year, particularly the carpet. It was way beyond time.

Big thread bump – MMRR has been getting some love recently, via @Drew the Disney Dude Ride originally opened March 5, 2020, so its fifth anniversary is coming up in a few days.
