The National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL, has issued a Cold Weather Advisory impacting Orange County, including Walt Disney World, and surrounding areas. The advisory is in effect from 1:00 am to 9:00 am EST on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Wind chills as low as 25 to 30 degrees are expected, posing risks of hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

Key Details

  • When: 1:00 am to 9:00 am EST on Wednesday, January 22, 2025
  • Where: Inland Volusia, Northern Lake, Orange, Seminole, and Southern Lake counties
  • Wind Chill: As low as 25 degrees
  • Risk: Hypothermia for those without proper protection during prolonged outdoor exposure

How This May Affect Disney World Visitors

Guests planning early morning park visits or outdoor activities should prepare for the colder-than-usual weather. Open areas, such as parking lots, the pathways in EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, could feel particularly chilly due to wind exposure.

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water park will be closed due to the weather.

Tips for Guests

  • Bundle Up: Wear layers, including hats, gloves, and insulated jackets.
  • Take Breaks Indoors: Plan to spend time in indoor attractions, restaurants, or shops to warm up.
  • Check Transportation Options: Outdoor transportation, like ferries, may feel colder due to wind chills.

Weather Outlook for January 22

  • Morning: Wind chills in the mid-20s to low-30s.
  • Afternoon: Highs will rise to around 50 degrees, but winds will keep it feeling cooler.
  • Evening: Temperatures drop back into the 40s after sunset.

Yep. And mid-to-upper 20’s windchill. 🥶 The Springs will be a ghost town again.

At least at OKW, the feature pool is closed today due to the low temps. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Hah.... Drove to my customer yesterday down I-196. At points I could see 2 feet past my windshield, mind you my hood is 5 ft long. Whomever came up with putting rumble strips on the shoulder is a genius. There was no snow accumulating on the roadway as the wind was blowing it across the ice. What is normally a 90 minute drive took 4 hours, but conditions improved on the way home as it only took 3 hours. During my trip, I passed 40-50 cars in the ditch, 1 closed highway with a 15 car pileup, and a semi facing north in the southbound ditch - he actually spun the semi and trailer 180 degrees without jackknifing - that takes skill. You just slow down, put your 4 ways on, and follow the flashing red lights in front of you.

This, and 1) the local infrastructure doesn’t have the means to treat/clear the roads, and 2) the locals likely don’t have many 4WD vehicles necessary to make it through some of those conditions if/when they arise.

Woke up to the snow somehow still there. Neat, but also irritating because I need to get art supplies.

In places where they don't have the equipment or wherewithal to deal with snow, everything absolutely should be closed.

3 inches of sleet and snow in downtown Charleston, SC this AM. Wind chill was 11 this morning! Pretty much everything is closed.

I live in Wisconsin. If we stayed home anytime it was snowing, no one would ever go to work, school, or anywhere outside their house.

No, there are places where it snows constantly (like upstate NY where I live). The problem arises because people in the south don’t understand how to drive in it. It doesn’t matter how heavy your car is, that it has all wheel drive, or that you have magical snow tires. The only thing that matters is that when there is snow on the road you drive very very very slowly. There’s a reason that an inch of snow shuts everything down in the south but people actively drive up where i live when we get a daily dose of 1-3 inches, and its not just because we have plows.

    And it's still coming down.

Indeed, very snowy in the panhandle this evening. Historic for my lifetime
