Stormalong Bay refurbishment - April 2025

Work continues on the major refurbishment of Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort, with the entire pool complex still fully drained and under active construction.

Crews are working across the three-acre area, resurfacing the pool basins, and upgrading guest areas. The hot tubs are being refurbished, the Shipwreck Slide is under maintenance, and large sections of the pool deck are being rebuilt with new concrete.

A significant amount of sand—hundreds of bags—has now been delivered and staged on the beach area, ready to be returned to the sand-bottom pool once structural and resurfacing work is complete.

The project, which began in January, is expected to continue through June 2025. During the closure, guests can still use the Tidal, Admiral, and Dune Cove leisure pools located throughout the resort.

No changes have been announced to the current reopening timeline. Work remains concentrated in and around Stormalong Bay and the adjacent Shipwreck area, which together make up one of the largest and most elaborate pool complexes at Walt Disney World.

I believe they have a special filtration setup that would cost money to replace, and of course taking away the sand would make the pool less unique too. I don’t know as though they’d ever want to get rid of it.

I'm just happy they're keeping th sand! I thought for sure that would be gone.

I am happy and relieved they are keeping the 8 foot depth pool.

I am surprised they are keeping the 8 foot depth pool.

Concrete for the pool. Shocked that it's being handled so low-key with the cement trucks going in and out of IG. Knowing Disney you'd expect them to have an army of Security CM shielding guests from the construction equipment.

Are those big bags full of new, fresh, clean sand? How exciting! Thanks for the visuals!!

I bet the construction PMs are getting an earful. Those pools will be in hot demand come June/July!

A very reliable birdie told me that they are running behind and that the expected opening date is the beginning of July.

Hubby and I are booked for the first week of September, and we're also hoping for the same. But we're booked for Yacht Club. Honestly, the reason we booked YC was for the pool amenities, as we're middle-aged and know we'll be spending plenty of time at our resort during the week. We originally wanted to book for our 1st anniversary (May 1st), but read about the construction way in advance, so chose the other time the parks aren't so hectic. Just so happens to be when it's obscenely hot (I've heard), so pool time will be a must. I'm not worried about the roofwork, though. Contractors (at least around my little piece of heaven) get roofs up and done super-fast!
