The new second-level access for the Magic Kingdom's ferry boats is now in testing in an effort to improve the efficiency of the service.
The structure is now fully assembled a the Magic Kingdom dock, allowing both ferry boat docks to access the single second-level structure through the "T" structure.
Each of the ferry boats has been modified to enable second-level access at each corner. The changes have reduced the total capacity of the ferry boat by about 100 guests, but the hope is that the quick access will make the system more efficient by avoiding the crush of guests attempting to use the onboard stairways to the lower level.
We understand that the plan is to use the second-level access only during busier times when the ferry boat faces a backlog of guests at the dock.
Hydraulics move the access platform into position, docking the gangway to the platform on the boat.
