Disney has shared all-new details on the new Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 2027, with construction beginning this year.

The ride will feature an all-new story, unlike any other Indy attraction at other Disney parks. In this new venture, the man with the hat has recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it's time to explore it. He's heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he's got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure…

The new Tropical Americas land where Indiana Jones will be located replaces the entire Dino-Land U.S.A. area, with Indiana Jones replacing the existing Dinosaur ride, and a new Encanto attraction replacing Dino-Rama. A closing date for Dino-Land U.S.A. has not yet been announced.

I had the fortune, or misfortune depending on your point of view, to ride Indy at DL before riding Dinosaur at AK. I loved Indy and thought it was a great ride. The sets and effects were incredible. I had high expectations when I rode Dinosaur the first time. I couldn't wait to see all of the effects and elaborate sets that I hoped would be on par with Indy. Imagine my disappointment when you get in the jeep and go thru the time portal to a dark building.... bumpy ride.... jeep stops... lights come up.... people scream at the so so dinosaur.... lights go down... bumpy ride... lights come up.... people scream at a so so dinosaur.... rinse and repeat 5-7 more times.... it was obvious someone had value engineered the hell out of this ride... lets see how can we shave off a couple million.... forget about theming the entire show building... lets make the ride in the dark then we only have to theme maybe half of the building... lazy and a waste of what could have been an incredible ride. I realize there are many that love this ride... I don't get it.... maybe most of you haven't seen/ridden Indy. I can't wait for the retheme. See ya dinosaur... you won't be missed by me.

I just hope they go all out with it. They don't have to worry about building any new show buildings or developing any new ride systems so they just focus on the effects and sets of it.

I hope we decide to collectively give him a name, like we did with Murphy and Harold. I propose Seeker, or Grant!

I mean there's a statue of it in the concept art. Maybe?

That'll be two broken disco AAs at DAK. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it could happen twice right?

In before disco Quetzalcoatl

I love Indy (more than Star Wars personally), so I do hope the potential is realized. To be fair to Disney how do you compete with Jurassic? And Quetzalcoatl are cool. Dinosaur will be missed. Protect WDW’s cult classic attractions!

So you're telling me they're going to build this thing?

Moth23 minutes ago

It has Quetzalcoatl, which is the coolest thing ever. I heard some crumbs about AAs also. It's gonna be no Dinosaur, because I LOVE dinosaurs, I was raised on the foam Styracosaurus they sold in the post-ride gift shop, but I see potential in Indy.

Define "good." Animatronics galore? A ride experience so unique that I won't constantly be comparing to its predecessor (with the same track layout)? A new John Williams score written for the attraction? It's a very high bar to be replacing Dinosaur, which I considered (at the height of its maintenance), my favorite WDW attraction.

I hope Indy has a “doctor grant seeker” reference in there somewhere

The muppets do a really fake dinosaur safari, and you can seee the gang struggle to keep the crappy animatronics together while Kermit is your guide and stabler and Waldorf heckle. give me a budget.

Personally I don't have a problem with screens. When they're used correctly, I don't want them to be substitutes for things that can be done physically, or least they need to be good. For example the Mama Odie screen right before the drop into the laughing place is great but the one before the drop is not. Or Navi River journey does a good job with them too like Len pointed out.

The concept art certainly hints there will be many, of course concept art can be deceptive.
