EPCOT's Rose Walk Flex Space
Posted: Sunday June 9, 2024 9:30am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The new flex space along the Rose Walk between EPCOT's World Celebration and World Showcase has now opened to guests.

The new area, positioned between two festival kiosks, features seating with umbrellas, artificial grass, and fans.

This completion of this new space, along with the opening of the CommuniCore Hall and Plaza tomorrow, means that the center of EPCOT is finally free of construction walls.

In case we need a reminder about the "pinch-point", nothing about the Fountain of Nations impeded traffic flow. Not to mention the fact that both CommuniCores had indoor air conditioned walkways that you could take from Spaceship Earth to the south end of the fountain in lieu of the exterior paths, which would've been restored as part of the original plaza plan. Plus the fact that MouseGear and Club Cool's entrances would've been decluttered, and the Fountain stage would've been removed, freeing up the area even more. The placement of the fountain was always correct and never a problem. If it were smack in the center it would've impeded on people being able to walk from one breezeway to the other.

Thanks for the kind words. I very much enjoy your posts too! I try to make fun post to help all of us cope with the destruction of our beloved parks. Love and anger are passionate emotions and they only happen when we care about, and have a connection to something. Indifference happens when one stops caring and all passion is gone. That is very sad.

    Much needed humor.

I sawa video a few months back (Brayden? Poseidon? Brickey?) that suggested Communicore Hall was indeed probably a panic measure, thrown up quickly, and likely not to stay for too long. We live in hope. Problem is, there needs to be another pot of money allocated for another revamp, which shows no sign of coming. Maybe for the 50th? We're 7 years away from that. They need to start now!

Sadly, CommuniCore Hall is the part of this redo that genuinely needs to be leveled. The gardens feel salvageable, but the hall will always feel cheap. They need to bring back the original concept from when Creations was to be demolished, with the collection of domes and toroids surrounded by gardens. Put the M&G in one, Festival Favorites and other fare in another, the stage in an Imagination-facing bandshell, and maybe even a carousel in another.

I don't foresee us having a fountain, but it's possible to create something incredible in this space without a fountain. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in round one. Hopefully there will be a round two. Also, I don't mind the stage and the Encanto show as a concept, but man does it kill the ambience of the area.

    Agree to disagree.

I think if they're trying to make it something sculptural that stands out in the current environment, the right call is to use the same accent material that has been used elsewhere in the space, i.e. COR-TEN. If they are doing something more understated, I don't deny that they could perhaps go with something more monochromatic in stone or concrete. I really just meant that they shouldn't deviate from the materials already in use and that pretty much all the display elements currently in the gardens are pulling from the COR-TEN color family.

With all due respect you said this. Which made it seem like you thought it would be ill advised if they didn’t use it.

    James Alucobond10 hours ago

It doesn't have to be; I was just pointing out things that exist that are materially consistent with what's already there.

Okay but I still don’t see why it needs to be that. You know what other colors repeat themselves constantly in this area? White and gray.

    James Alucobond10 hours ago

It's the grates around the trees near Connections/Creations, it's the dividers and accent panels in the central planter, it's the shade structures in Inspiration Garden, it's the curb in front of the Walt statue, it's the retaining wall behind the Walt statue, it's the edging material for some of the individual tree planters, and ... there's probably more I'm forgetting. The color is also echoed in the built-in wooden seating.

I still would love to see a kinetic sculpture akin to the Paint the Night finale float, but featuring the Epcot logo. (Plus one of these fountains, please.)
