One of the Haunted Mansion's most recognizable characters, Madame Leota, has an updated appearance in the seance scene of the classic Magic Kingdom attraction.
The new look is closer to Madame Leota's appearance in the new 2023 Haunted Mansion movie. The hair takes on a more sculpted appearance with more shape and dimension than before.
Madame Leota is one of the Haunted Mansion's most iconic characters and appears in multiple Disney theme parks, including Disneyland, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland. She's a ghostly figure whose head appears inside a floating crystal ball, providing a spooky and mysterious effect.
In the Haunted Mansion, Madame Leota serves as a medium, reciting incantations and chants to summon spirits and communicate with the supernatural.
The character was named after Leota Toombs, a former Disney Imagineer and the person whose face was originally used for the character in the crystal ball.
This change to Madama Leota is part of a series of upgrades at the Haunted Mansion, including the return of the mummy figure in the graveyard, updated load and unload belts, refreshed lighting in the stretch room, and the upcoming arrival of the Hatbox Ghost.
