Walkway Refurbishment Underway at Mexico Pavilion
Posted: Monday April 21, 2025 9:45am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The Mexico pavilion at EPCOT is in the middle of a pavement refurbishment project. Crews have started replacing sections of the old pinkish concrete with a new textured surface that updates the area’s appearance to better fit its thematic style.

The updated concrete features a more natural-toned color and layered texture that better reflects the pavilion’s architectural details. This work is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements throughout World Showcase, which have included similar pavement updates in recent years at other pavilions like Morocco, China, and France.

The refurbishment is being done in phases to keep guest access open, with only minimal rerouting of foot traffic. So far, areas near the entrance to the quick service Cantina have been updated, with more work likely to follow in the coming weeks.

The Mexico pavilion remains fully open, including Gran Fiesta Tour, La Cava del Tequila, and San Angel Inn Restaurante.

I've never been pinched there... Is that an upcharge?

I understand your nostalgia but I do appreciate the new themed pavement. Was a little surprised to see them working on this last weekend though. The already problematic Mexico pinch point was especially hard to get through. Thankfully, the walkway fully reopened in the afternoon.

I am nostalgic for the old pink concrete. It is sad they are getting rid of it. Just like the purple signs they replaced with a downgraded version I don't think this looks any better. Something about the old concrete just screamed Disney to me.

For sure. I should not speak in absolutes, I meant specifically anything built post opening era and I botched my post. Honorable mention to MS for trying.

The Land, SSE, Space pavilion, Seabase, Test track, America, Canada, France, i’d argue too

The issue I think is EPCOT's Festivals are the only EPCOT focused part of EPCOT left.

I mean to be fair the real life les Halle is a farmers market.

Love this idea, and would help make world showcase look less like a farmers market

Really love this idea. And the area could be sealed off when not in use.

This does go a bit Blue Sky... but I think Epcot's festivals have become so popular over the years that they're starting to hinder the experience. It's as easy as creating dedicated festival areas that are away from main pathways to reduce congestion and add seating. (Essentially more areas like the booths featured between Morocco & France, by Imagination and Canada, etc.) Something like this for example:

Germany still has benchs. We use those whenever we stop for fondue. As for France completely agree. On the flower and garden start date we hid in there from the rain and it was very crowded and people were eating on the merch stands and I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between the real food and the fake food they had as theming.

Completely agree, it continues to get worse all the time it seems like. All the pavilions use to have benches throughout, I think the UK is the only one left with some anymore. I know you were referring to tables and not benches but either way its bad. I wont even start on their problems with the bakery and ice cream shop in the back of France. All that merch could easily be stashed elsewhere, that entire room should be all the tables at this point, its ridiculous. Its terrible seeing people having to sit on the hard concrete in the sun to eat and drink.
