Disney has today announced that the Princess and the Frog remake of Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain will open in late 2024 as "Tiana's Bayou Adventure."
Although we now have an approximate opening date and official name for The Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort Splash Mountain reimagining, Disney stopped short of announcing its closing date.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure will take Guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, Guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome. Along the way, Guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film as they are brought into the next chapter of Tiana's story.
The voice of Princess Tiana and Tony Award-winning actress, Anika Noni Rose, shared, “It is really exciting to know that Princess Tiana’s presence in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will finally be fully realized! As passionate as I am about what we created, I know the fans are going to be over the moon. The Imagineers are giving us ‘The Princess and the Frog’ Mardi Gras celebration we’ve been waiting for, and I’m here for it!”
The project is being led by Charita Carter, who most recently worked on Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. Splash Mountain creater Tony Baxter will serve as a creative adviser for the makeover.
Disney announced the project back in June 2020 and said at that time, "The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year."
