Fans eagerly awaiting the debut of Disney's The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure at Disney's Hollywood Studios may need to wait a little longer than anticipated.

According to sources familiar with the production timeline, the reimagined theatrical show, which was initially slated to open in fall 2024, is now expected to be delayed until summer 2025. Work begins soon on the exterior, which will include a new marquee.

The delay reportedly stems from unforeseen challenges during the construction and development of the new show. Disney originally announced that The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure would take over the refreshed Animation Courtyard theater with a bold new design that aimed to immerse audiences in Ariel's world like never before. The production promises stunning visuals, advanced effects, and a fresh take on musical numbers like Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls.

The original Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, which premiered in 1992, closed its doors in 2020 amid the pandemic and has yet to return. With this new iteration, Disney hopes to capture the magic of the classic while introducing new elements to modernize the story for today's audience.

Not really. It typically takes the time for those shows to return because post HHN, it is a calm time before the Thanksgiving Week Storm. It reeturned for that. And was ready to go as soon as the parade ended its summer run and Christmas parade started right up. 20 days is less than three weeks. Cinesational also opened with a new drone sequence. Mermaid was a net loss in the first place and has been closed for a lot longer than 2o days(years) And ya know. EPIC is opening an entirely new theme park with a bunch of entertainment and still knocking entertainment out of the park. Your random jab falls flat in comparison.

Monstrified real-world allusion...

I don't think we expected a new facade, just a new marquee for the show. I don't think we'll see any extensive work to this area anytime soon.

Is this still getting a nice new facade?

I wonder if the previous equity contracts were cancelled/terminated from the postponement and delay to next year. They already had the casts selected and rehearsals done back in August iirc. One the actors I follow on IG that was casted as Ariel found another gig, so maybe so.

I would assume those two will come soon.

We knew already this was delayed till Summer 2025..... Also, it took USF 20 Days after HHN to return their Nighttime Spectacular... CineSational should have been ready to go as soon as HHN ended like HEA.

And how much of these cheaper to produce products end up at character warehouse, CM stores and clearance sales because nobody wants them?
