Tropical Americas Construction Update: Dino-Rama Demolition Progresses at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Dino-Rama Demolition - February 23, 2025

Demolition work is moving forward in Dinoland U.S.A. as Disney continues clearing the area for the upcoming Tropical Americas expansion at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The latest construction activity shows that all Fossil Fun Games midway structures have now been removed, along with the entire queue structure for TriceraTop Spin.

Midway Games and TriceraTop Spin Queue Now Gone

As of yesterday, a small section of the TriceraTop Spin queue canopy was still visible, but overnight work has since removed it completely.

At the rear of the former Dino-Rama site, piles of rubble are now visible where Primeval Whirl once stood.

TriceraTop Spin Dismantling Continues—But Not Demolished

Unlike other structures in Dino-Rama, TriceraTop Spin is being carefully dismantled rather than outright demolished, suggesting that the attraction may be repurposed.

The Tropical Americas expansion is expected to open in phases, with full completion projected for 2027. The land will feature an Encanto-themed attraction, allowing guests to step inside the Madrigal family's casita, and a new Indiana Jones adventure, replacing the DINOSAUR ride after its closure in early 2026.

Quick, bring it to the Katiebug thread! And the one about the yeti for good measure!

I don't mean this in a rude way and please don't take this with any personal offence to everybody here, but I think there kind of is a problem with both TBA and us

I recall a statement a bit ago about how some IP they view as "franchises" and those are the ones they are investing in. So isn't just about the box office of a single movie but where they think there are more stories and they extend beyond the films (becomes internet trends, etc) So Moana, Zootopia, Encanto, Frozen, Lion King are ones they see as that (some examples)

We are now talking about TBA in both the Cars-Themed Attractions thread AND the Encanto thread. That's a sign there is a problem with TBA. And possibly a problem with us.

I agree, but that doesn't seem to be the way Disney sees it. Otherwise we would have gotten that Atlantis retheme of Disneyland's Submarine Voyage. We'd probably also have gotten something based on The Good Dinosaur in Dinoland USA, for that matter. Well, there's a pretty big reason for that, but I won't say it here because I know it's going to result in a lot of people arguing over why they gave it said E-Ticket and whether or not that was a good thing. Funny thing is, The Princess and the Frog wasn't even a flop. It just didn't do as well as Disney was hoping.

You cant spell synergy without ip...... er.... well, you know what I mean ;) besides, Disney doesn't care as long as they are using IPs ;)

What we consider Disney's old classic rides, most were not based on ip at all... Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Small World, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Space Mountain, Big Thunder......All E tickets.... Snow White's Scary Adventures, Peter Pan, Mr Toad...C and D tickets... The IP Mandate is making sure that WDW willl never again have any original ride ideas...

To add on what you said, I think Disney does really forgive Encanto in terms of success as while it only made about $250 million in the box office (iirc), its popularity especially with the soundtrack and Disney+ makes it honestly a big success in Disney's eyes seeing as it got a few things in the parks and the rumors of a sequel happening in the future, I don't think Disney consider it a failure at all and I can see why they're putting in the parks a lot.

Encanto will always be a weird one when it comes to Box Office due to it only being in movie theatres for a month. It's the mech, the soundtrack streaming numbers and Disney+ views that have indicated its popularity

Fair enough! My point was that a rides IP shouldn’t be based on its box office success. Princess and the Frog “flopped” but was given an E-Ticket to inhabit.

It's not because of the film; it was already one of the most popular rides at the Disney parks. Let's not revise history here.

    Absolutely! Like these for example...

100% untrue. My niece wouldn't ride anything with any drops / thrills. Tiana is her favorite princess. She braved the drops for the new ride when she wouldn't before, and it's her new favorite. Now she's excited to go back to ride all of the other rides she was previously afraid of.

People who didnt ride Splash Mountain are now not suddenly riding because of Tiana.
