Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro announced during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, that a major new Magic Kingdom land will be home to the Disney Villains we know and loathe from our favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios classic films.

The land will be home to two major attractions, dining, and shopping on an "incredibly twisted grand scale." "Since the beginning, our Disney Villains have given us endless possibilities to tell new stories," D'Amaro said. "In this new land, you’ll see storytelling on a grand scale that only Disney can deliver."

While we don't yet have an opening timeframe, Disney says that preparation is already underway at Magic Kingdom for this new land.

The single piece of concept art shows what looks very much like a rollercoaster track, themed to Maleficent Dragon.

"Be prepared, you poor unfortunate souls," Josh teased. "It's going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be."

To be fair TSI was there before Big Thunder. I guess no one gave it any thought to have guns removed or whatever.

And would still require closing the boat. And wouldn’t really improve the islands demand and scores.

They could always just build a bridge to Tom Sawyer Island, but that don't sell Lightning McQueen merchandise.

Imagine trying to evacuate during a summer pop-up thunderstorm.

Went and explored the entirety of Tom Sawyer’s island on my WDW trip last week. I had never been the fort on the very back of the island. Had no clue there was a jail, AAs, escape tunnels, and other sights. The boats were packed with people getting one last look. One bizarre discovery were the guns you could fire from the fort that point right at Big Thunder Mountain riders. Yes, obviously it is all fake but it was unsettling to realize all this time riding Big Thunder we were being shot at. Who knew?!?! From a management perspective, TSI is a nightmare for guest with mobility issues. I can see why they would want to remove it. It is difficult to get to and while what is there is charming, I do understand the desire for something different in its place. Let’s hope Disney can deliver.

Aren’t a lot of the people that worked on New Fantasyland gone now? Also the chain of command (WDW president, parks and experiences head) is just different enough to make a difference. One of the reasons we don’t have much info yet is because the details are still being decided. If we decide every project is bad before work even starts on it then it won’t even matter what they do because we already have it in our minds to hate it.

That's the truth... There was a time you could be sure that whatever Disney did was going to be beautifully themed, and the best of what could be built in the world... Sadly after a couple decades of value engineering and promises of destruction and replacement instead of additions...Promises of new attractions that do not fit their thematic areas, and a complete irreversible change in the very fabric of the Magic Kingdom, I am not feeling so hopeful...

It is wild that we have to live in a promise, that is more of a hope that modern Disney budget and WDI resources will deliver a "Heavily themed" attraction to their most popular and fiscal theme park in the world.

there are things we absolutely don't know... Heavily Themed...well we know there will be rockwork...and probably a station like 7 dwarfs... as far as the second attraction I would not expect anything even remotely like Rise. Remember this is not the gigantic land announcement...it is Carsland Road Rally and a villains area... There has been no hype about anything in the Villain area except we are assuming a coaster and something else... THis is the team that removed a dark ride to put a princess meet and greet in Fantasyland...and also added another big meet and greet location in a circus tent... If those were considered major additions for the "new Fantasyland" I would not get my hopes up too high about the "villains area" especially with zero specifics known at this point. They continue to act like EPIC UNIVERSE down the road doesn't matter....so I am not sure I would bank on them doing something completely over the top here...especially after seeing the value engineered mess they made of EPCOT.

So they can keep the Riverboat, but make it EVIL?

I know it doesn't have much to do with it, but...

It will be a heavily themed coaster and we do not know the second attraction, outside that it will be an “E-ticket”. I would imagine it will be a next gen Dark Ride like Rise. Especially with Universal really stepping up with the new Battle at the Ministry attraction.

Does anyone else have this feeling that the land will not be very inspired? I feel like the concept art was all the most low hanging of fruit. I was not wowed by it. I really want to see them do something special, but a "roller coaster" sounds like something Universal would do. I hope it's a bit more of a production than just a themed coaster. I am trying to wrap my head around what it could be but I have trouble getting a clear vision and the concept art didn't leave me feeling like they have one either.

What a remarkably out of touch post.
