Disney announces new 'Heroes and Villains' themed cruise ship, the Disney Destiny, set to sail in 2025

Today, Disney shared the very first details about its next Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Destiny.

The Disney Destiny, sister to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, will have a first-of-its-kind design theme, "Heroes and Villains," drawing on the legacies of beloved Disney stories, characters, and theme park attractions.

The Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams were inspired by the dynamic duality of every great Disney story when developing this new ship, where opposing forces of light and dark drive characters to rise to their purpose.

Onboard, guests will encounter heroes and villains alike – including those from beloved Walt Disney Animation stories like "The Lion King," "Hercules" and "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" – within spaces, experiences and entertainment throughout their voyage.

Minnie Mouse embodies the spirit of the Disney Destiny in this brand-new filigree artwork for the bow of the ship, continuing a beloved Disney Cruise Line design tradition. Donning a heroic new ensemble – cape and all! – and a valiant pose, she will boldly lead guests on epic cruise vacations.

The Disney Destiny also reached a new construction milestone today with the keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, which is a maritime tradition designed to bestow good luck upon the ship.

The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2025 as part of a multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet that includes the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, the Disney Adventure that will homeport in Singapore, and the new island destination in The Bahamas, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

I think both are good choices, though I would give the edge to the music in Mulan, I’m excited for Hercules. I wonder if Mulan will be more prominent on the ships based in Asia? I like both— would prefer Tangled, but I’m sure Frozen is just the more popular franchise still. They really should put in Hygge from the original Broadway run— one of the catchiest Disney songs ever…but not super family friendly. I think this is my biggest complaint— it doesn’t make sense with the Heroes and Villains theme, even Hyperspace Lounge would be (slightly) better with its various planets and drinks themed to Sith. They could even add a Mandalorian element and cross promote their IP. 😛

Its a real pity they went for hercules over mulan. The later is just a much better story and more awesome songs. and why frozen again? Its already on two other ships. They should of used Tangled as their repeat show since its only on one. also repeating the haunted mansion bar again seems lazy. They dont even know if people will like it yet plus it does not fit with heros and villans theme.

Onboard, one such tale of good vs. evil will come to life when everyone’s favorite Greek gladiator takes center stage in the Walt Disney Theatre in “Disney Hercules,” an all-new, Broadway-style show developed exclusively for the Disney Destiny. The high-energy show will be filled with the celebrated songs and larger-than-life characters from the Walt Disney Animation Studios movie, presented in an all-new way. “Disney Hercules” will stay true to the story and spirit of the film while showcasing a fresh, modern adaptation tailor-made for the stage. Like the film, the Muses will be the show’s storytellers, guiding guests through this mythical tale of good vs. evil. The show will include all the beloved songs featured in the film, along with the theatrical debut of “Shooting Star.” The new musical arrangements will emphasize the iconic soundtrack’s pop and gospel influences, drawing on the production team’s extensive and diversevexperience that ranges from theatre to pop music. It is separated by the glass wall from the chaos (which usually isn’t that bad) in the grand hall. I haven’t spent too much time there on Wish because I am partial to Hyperspace Lounge. I am moderately prone to motion sickness so, while we love the piano bars on the small ships, I can’t spend much time there in rocky seas and prefer mid-ship locations.

Watching a documentary on the Magic 2013 dry dock and it is interesting to see how different things are from today. Almost none of the imagineers are still with the company.

Not sure if you have been on the Wish but the bar in this placement is really unfortunate, it has windows into the Grand Hall which is noisy, I believe this is because (compared to the Classic ships) it is the entrance to the kids clubs so you get some overspill that the hall becomes a bit of a space for kids to run around before or after they go there so you are having your drink to the screams of children in the background. At one point I was having my drink as I child was licking the window... lol The piano bars on the classic ships have a far better atmosphere.
