For the third time since its launch, Disney World's Lightning Lane Premier Pass has sold out at Magic Kingdom. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, the pass reached full capacity, coinciding with its highest price point of $449. This follows previous sellouts at Magic Kingdom on November 25 and 26, reflecting high demand during the busy holiday week.

Record Pricing Meets Record Demand

Thanksgiving Day marked the first time the Premier Pass reached its maximum price at Magic Kingdom and sold out on the same day. The $449 rate is the peak of the announced pricing range for the park, introduced when the Premier Pass launched earlier this year. With Magic Kingdom being Disney World's flagship park and home to top-tier attractions like TRON Lightcycle / Run and Tiana's Bayou Adventure, it's no surprise that the pass hit its limit during the Thanksgiving rush.

The combination of high demand and premium pricing underscores the growing popularity of the Lightning Lane Premier Pass, particularly at Magic Kingdom during peak times.

Third Sellout for Magic Kingdom

This sellout marks the third time Magic Kingdom's Lightning Lane Premier Pass has sold out since its launch:

  • November 25, 2024: Sold out at $379
  • November 26, 2024: Sold out at $399
  • November 28, 2024 (Thanksgiving): Sold out at $449

Each sellout occurred during Thanksgiving week, one of Disney World's busiest times of the year, demonstrating the Premier Pass's appeal for guests seeking to maximize their time during high-traffic periods.

What This Means for Guests

The sellout highlights the importance of planning ahead, particularly for guests visiting during peak seasons. Key takeaways include:

  • Book Early: With the Premier Pass now proven to sell out on high-demand days, booking early is essential to secure access.

  • Dynamic Pricing in Action: The sellout at $449 showcases Disney's dynamic pricing model, which adjusts rates based on demand. Guests can expect higher prices—and potential sellouts—during busy holidays.

  • Alternative Options: Guests who miss out on the Premier Pass can still use other options like Lighting Lane Multi and Single Pass for select attractions.

A Glimpse Into Future Demand

The sellout of the Premier Pass at its highest price point suggests that similar trends could emerge during other peak periods, such as Christmas and New Year's. Guests planning visits during these times should anticipate high demand and potential capacity limits for premium offerings like the Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

…if you want to look the fool by burning money…gasoline and a lighter is more exciting

Absolutely. I was just saying that they won't be able to slow down the rate of LLPP people entering any particular LL queue. I'm sure they are very keen to know LLPP usage.

Purduevian30 minutes ago

Yes, that is #2 on the list of strings disney can pull, but even if you give say 0LLMP between 2-3pm. You still can't have 900LLPP users jump to peter pan after the parade is over.

I’m sure they have models, but will also likely offer fewer LLMP return times during known busier times. As they refine their models they can adjust. Maybe a CM won’t be able to discern that, but the system will, which is how they’ll get data on LLPP usage.

I can only speak for me and my family. Personally, i/we find ANYTHING is better than waiting in line. Now there are some very very small exceptions to this, like i don't mind a 5/10min walk though line at Peter Pan, or maybe a couple minutes playing with the books at HM. But other than that, I would rather not be spending my vacation time just waiting around. It lets us go shop, go pin trade, go grab an extra snack. Take time out to find all the chamelons outside the tangled bathroom, and not be worrying about time. As to is it worth it. Again personally I don't value much more than my time and time with my family. I don't get to take alot of time off and i want to enjoy the time i do. So for me, yes its worth it. they would have to raise the cost to something extremely high, to make it worth it for me to spend potentially 25% of an 8 hour day waiting around in line doing nothing.

Aren't LLMP timed. Offer fewer LLMP during busy times.

Yes... that is 1)... Maybe I should have phrased it as Assuming Disney is limiting LLPP sales due to low capacity rides. Edit: to add to this, they simply can not have 700LLPP and 200LLMP users all show up at the same time on Peter Pan. Otherwise you get an hour long LL assuming no one from Standby gets on. I'm sure they have models that say something like 10% of LLPP will show up before 10am and 50% will show up between 1pm or 4pm or something like that.

There is no way to "limit LLPP on low capacity rides" - LLPP is one LL per ride in whatever park you purchase it for. The only way to limit the number of LLPP people in a park is to limit sales. There is no way to discern who has LLMP vs. LLPP once they tap into a line. And telling someone with LLPP, "Sorry, you have to wait, there are too many other LLPP people already in line" is a surefire way to have Guest Relations overrun with angry guests.

Assuming Disney is limiting the LLPP on low capacity rides like Pan, Disney really has 3 strings to pull. 1) Total amount of LLPP sold ($400+ a person) 2) LLMP given out for low-capacity rides at peak times ($40+ per person) 3) Capacity given to standby line on low-capacity rides at peak times ($0 per person extra) I assume they will limit standby by down to a minimum threshold (10% of pan is only 80 people per hour or 1 every ~7 people every 5 mins). Once the minimum is reached, start limiting the LLMP down to an acceptable minimum (this is easier to change without being noticed by the user base, almost no one would know if 0LLMP for Pan was given out from 1-3pm)

Decent human being is actually my wife's job, but yes we are always polite to all CMs. Thinking you deserve anything is a sure way not to get it. I wonder if anyone was actually successful in getting credit and or refund?

monothingie2 hours ago

Over the years I've had to change plans for hard ticket events and have never had an issue getting a full refund or having the ticket moved to another date, even it was "sold out". Again, the key is to be respectful and polite to the CM you are interfacing with. (Not that you should ever not be respectful and polite to a CM)

lewisc2 hours ago

Particularly if you're willing to accept a credit instead of a refund back to the original form of payment

monothingie2 hours ago

If you visit guest services in person or call Disney directly and act like a decent human being towards the CM, anything that is "non-refundable" magically can become refundable.

I thought the same until Disney moved to a 2 hour cancellation window. While people's plans shift and that likely has some impact into availability, it is my understanding that the inventory is added to the system the closer you get to day of. Doing a quick search of ADRs comparing Friday 11/22 to Friday 12/6 (non-holiday weekends) for a party of 2, a place like Citricos only has 1 slot available on 12/6, however the 11/22 date has basically all slots available from 5PM- 9PM. The same can be said about Topolinos, Flying Fish, Jiko, California Grill, Chef Mickeys, and many other TS locations. To further illustrate this, on 12/6 the app lists 41 locations for a party of 2 that have no availability. On 11/22 it lists 25 locations with no availability.
