As Hurricane Milton begins to move away from the Florida coast, Walt Disney World Resort has officially lifted its shelter-in-place advisory for resort guests.

However, all theme parks, water parks, recreation offerings, and Disney Springs will remain closed through Thursday, October 10, 2024, as safety assessments and recovery efforts continue.

Shelter-in-Place Lifted

Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels are now free to leave their rooms, though the resort's primary focus remains on the safety and well-being of everyone on property. Disney is currently evaluating the overall condition of its parks and resort areas after the passage of Hurricane Milton.

Theme Parks and Disney Springs Closed Through Thursday

While the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, the following closures remain in effect for Thursday, October 10:

  • Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom will remain closed all day.
  • Disney Springs and all water parks will also remain closed for Thursday, October 10.
  • Recreation offerings, including golf courses, miniature golf, and resort recreational activities, are also unavailable at this time.

Update on Operational Plans for October 11

Walt Disney World is expected to provide an additional update on operational plans for Friday, October 11 later today.

Next Steps for Resort Guests

While parks and recreational areas remain closed, Disney Resort hotels continue to operate with select dining options available. Guests are still encouraged to check the My Disney Experience app for updates on food service locations and activities at their respective resorts.

For those with multi-day tickets, ticket expiration dates will be extended to allow for extra flexibility in visiting the parks. Refunds will also be issued for special events, such as Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which has been canceled due to the storm.

I'm sure any day now we can expect a dining review from Molly McGrifter about those PB & J Hurricane boxes.

There are lots of reasons to not hurry them as well. Pros and Cons, not as simple as what is best in a Hurricane. Cost, accessibility, transmission efficiency etc.

I was a 9 y/o when hurricane David came though NJ. It flooded the golf course near my parents house. My friends an I went wading around in the 2 - 3 foot deep water after it passed. Yeah, lots of not so bright things as a kid.
