Despite Hurricane Milton moving further away from Florida, a Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Walt Disney World area and surrounding counties, including Orange and Osceola, effective from 10:53 am EDT until 8:00 pm EDT today.
Advisory Details
According to the NWS Melbourne, northwest winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 to 45 mph in parts of Indian River, Martin, Saint Lucie, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.
These gusty winds are expected to continue throughout the day and into the evening, potentially causing hazardous conditions around the Walt Disney World Resort and central Florida.
Potential Impacts
- Unsecured Objects: Guests and residents in the affected areas are urged to secure outdoor objects that could be blown around by the strong winds.
- Tree Damage: Tree limbs may be broken or blown down, and in some cases, this could lead to minor power outages.
- Driving Hazards: High-profile vehicles, such as trucks or trailers, may have difficulty driving in the windy conditions. Drivers are advised to use extra caution, especially when traveling on highways or through areas with debris.
Disney Resort and Guest Safety
With gusts reaching 45 mph, it is important for Walt Disney World Resort guests to remain cautious when moving around the resort grounds. Disney has already closed all theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs through Thursday, October 10, as part of the ongoing storm-related precautions. Guests staying at the Disney Resort hotels are encouraged to limit outdoor activities and follow any additional instructions from Disney.
