Walt Disney World's plans to develop just over 1400 units of affordable and attainable housing scraped through Orange County's planning and zoning board by four votes to three.
Walt Disney World will contribute approximately 80 acres of land in southwest Orange County, Florida, for the development, located west of State Road 429
Residents of nearby Horizon West voiced concerns about additional traffic, lack of schools, and impacts to emergency services.
Today's zoning vote was the first of several steps Disney must pass before the development begins.
Disney has previously said that it hopes to open the first units in 2026 built by The Michaels Organization, a nationally recognized developer, which will also operate the property. The development would be just a few miles from Magic Kingdom, near schools and shopping, including Flamingo Crossings Town Center.
