Watto's Grotto overview

If you have been to Star Wars Weekends you may remember Watto's Grotto as one of the stores in Darth's Mall. Well now the store is a permanent fixture (or as permanent as anything can be in the Studios pending its makeover), operating daily, and is home to all your Star Wars merchandise needs.

Watto's Grotto is located just off the Streets of America, in the space that was originally the American Film Institute Showcase at the exit of the tram tour, and most recently the home of the second incarnation of Wondering Oakens Outpost and Snowground during the 2014 holiday season.

Opening just in-time for the huge 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' merchandise bonanza, the store is huge, and carries a lot of Star Wars merchandise. Of course, some of the most popular items sold out on Force Friday, such as the BB-8 robot, but expect to see things restocked pretty quickly.

Watto's Grotto also includes a build-your-own light saber, and build-your-own droid.

Watto's Grotto does not replace the existing Star Wars store near Star Tours, with Tatooine Traders continuing to operate as normal.

You can also find 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' merchandise throughout Walt Disney World. At Disney Springs in Once Upon a Toy, World of Disney, and D-Street, at the Magic Kingdom Park in the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. and Merchants of Venus in Tomorrowland. Over at Epcot, Mouse Gear and Disney Traders is the place to go, and at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Island Mercantile.

It's been going on 3 years since the deal was announced and I expected at least better junk by now....

What are the chances it is technically the snow speeder and it's basically a terminology change? Aren't structures only "temporary" if they are around less than 180 days or something like that (just guessing from what I've heard about the stage, but am not totally sure)? If the snow speeder went up in May and they want it at least through December, then wouldn't they technically have to make it "permanent" and make any changes as necessary?

The snow speeder is outside and was never removed. This is for something else. Realisticly I believe it will be a prop from the new movie

dstrawn9889Sep 16, 2015

would say it is the snowspeeder, or something to replace it

roj2323Sep 16, 2015

This is true. I spoke with a CM that works wattles grotto and I was told that over the next few months more content will be added continually until December. Naturally he didn't know what was going to be added but it is something that is leaders did tell them was going to happen. I also asked about the permanent prop installation that we had seen a permit for but unfortunately they didn't know anything about it.

Just wait until after the movie opens. It will be pandemonium. BTW, could have gone with "JohnHD". Decided on just "JohnD".

It is sparse, but more will come.

Oh my poor bank account... Well at least I can knock out Christmas shopping on my October trip!

I went yesterday and what a let down. There was not one thing that interested me, and I am a big Star Wars fan and a big Disney fan. It's pretty much all junk, which is very degrading to such a great franchise. I don't think Disney should have opened this until there was merchandise worthy of Star Wars.

I am going to spend so much money in there !!

OK thanks!

The 7:30 closing time was due to the Frozen Fireworks. It's should now be open from Park Open to Park Close.

wdwmagicSep 09, 2015

Yes, open daily through to around 7:30pm, varying by park hours. But it opens at 9am.

DisneyRoySep 09, 2015

I would LOVE to see that happen!
