"Tower of terror gets carried by its thrills because without them it's essentially a dressed up Knott's Scary farm Twilight Zone walkthrough" I don't think that's a productive way to think about attractions

Mission Breakout gets carried by its thrills because without them it's essentially another Fallon or F&F where the main point is seeing actors on a screen.

I think Simba would be addressed first since they are building the EGW, which will more than make up for the spots they will lose when they expand DCA into it. Based on the amount Disney agreed with the City of Anaheim to invest in DLR by 2034, I think the first phase of the Simba buildout will be included in that sum. Hopefully it gets announced at D23 2028.

Yeah I'm gonna have to fully disagree with you there, the Justice League shooter is not even debatably equal to Mission BO. Even the Rocket AA in the preshow alone underlines that these are two attrations in different leagues. I agree with the point you're trying to make: DCA is short on attractions that represent Disney at its very best, but to suggest that attractions like Mission BO are Six Flags level is just disingenuous

The Justice League shooter is pretty comparable. Screens, AA preshow, a rushed attempt of themeing. Mission BO is a more thrilling ride, but I'd say thats also because Six Flags doesn't need family rides to be thrill rides as they have quite a smorgasbord of thrill rides for all types. Is Mission BO better? In some ways, a little. In some ways, no. And the fact that Disney created a ride that's debatable equal to a Six Flags attraction is how I know it's not up to standard for Disney.

I think your criteria might be a little aspirational. I can't think of a single Six Flags attraction that approaches the quality of Mission BO

    Professortango119 days ago

I'd say Mission BO, in its current state, would be a good Six Flags attraction or a Hollywood version of a better USO Universal attraction.

I agree it's not to the standard of Disney's best, but there's still a huge gap between that and the amusement park tier lol very cynical, but perhaps not wrong?

Mission BO is okay, but it definitely doesn't feel up to the Disney standard. When people point to bad modern Disney rides like WEB Slingers or the Avengers stuff in the overseas parks; this is the seed of that mediocrity. If Disney made DCA $20-$30 cheaper, everyone would be happier. And maybe that's why Disney changed Splash to Tiana; they were trying to nerf their park by downgrading a classic into a crappic.

Yeah broadly I agree, though while I prefer ToT thematically I do think Guardians of the Galaxy is clearly superior to "copycat parks." I suppose that depends on if you mean the amusement park class of Six Flags/Cedar Fair or if you mean Universal. I'd say Universal has definitively graduated beyond "copycat" class but that discussion is probably best had outside the Avenger's Campus thread. Outside of ToT there really isn't all that much that's clearly a cut above domestic alternatives. While I love GRR you can definitely find quality rafting experiences elsewhere. I guess Little Mermaid or Soarin' would be the only other contenders but in their current state I don't think they're clear cut exceptions either. There's probably no bigger gulf between two parks at any of Disney's resorts around the world. I did find it rather curious that Disneyland has seen so much recent investment with Galaxy's Edge, MMRR, and Tiana's while DCA remains such a clear lesser option. I hope Disney chooses to develop the Simba lot plot of DisneylandForward before the northern plot because even after this next tranche of DCA "3.0," the gulf between the two parks will remain significant. Probably won't happen if they plan to maximize the space within the parks' current boundaries but based on need I'd go: 1. DisneylandForward South (Simba lot) 2. Tomorrowland re-do 3. DisneylandForward North

But for the time being...I only go there for Animation Academy and RSR. Everything else there feels like it belongs in a copycat park rather than an actual Disney park. The kind of park where you go "wow, they really were going for that Disney touch for this ride and they almost got it." But it is Disney. And it has the same ticket price as the park next door with Indiana Jones Adventure, Rise of the Resistance, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Pinocchio, Haunted Mansion, Alice in Wonderland, Runaway Railway, etc.

I guess when you consider the other expansion pads this does seem like a logical place for long-term backstage facilities. The Backlot + Bus loop and the Simba lot are both a lot tighter

Ah yes - Radiator Springs too (the entire land) - I totally forgot about it. I’ve never ridden rapids cause I don’t want to get soaked - but i do enjoy walking that area. Certainly it’s worth the price if you’ve never been - but for me it’s currently a skip - with world of color being the possible exception for me.
