With the holiday season in full swing, Walt Disney World theme park reservations are becoming harder to secure. Magic Kingdom is fully booked for multiple days around Christmas 2024, while other parks are nearing capacity. Here’s the latest on park availability and tips for navigating the crowds.

Walt Disney World Annual Passholders

Annual Passholders face limited availability for Magic Kingdom and EPCOT:

  • Magic Kingdom: Fully booked on December 24, 25, 30, and 31, 2024.
  • EPCOT: Fully booked on December 31, 2024.
  • All other parks currently have full availability for Annual Passholders.

Regular Theme Park Tickets and Resort Guests

Guests using regular theme park tickets or staying at Disney Resorts are experiencing even tighter restrictions:

  • Magic Kingdom: Unavailable from December 24, 2024, through January 3, 2025.
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Unavailable on December 27, 30, 31, 2024, and January 3, 2025.
  • Other parks remain available for reservations as of now.

Single-Day Park Tickets

Single-day park tickets, which are date-based and do not require a reservation, are also reaching capacity:

  • Magic Kingdom: Unavailable on December 24, 25, 27, 30, and 31, 2024.
  • EPCOT: Unavailable on December 31, 2024.
  • Availability for other parks remains open for now.

Strategies for Annual Passholders When Parks Are at Capacity

If your preferred park is at capacity, you can still make the most of your Annual Passholder benefits by following these strategies:

Use Park Hopper Benefits

Annual Passholders can visit another park during regular park hours (subject to capacity limitations), but specific steps are required:

  1. Make a Theme Park Reservation: A reservation is required for the first park you plan to visit.
  2. Enter the Reserved Park First: You must physically enter the park you reserved before hopping to another park.
  3. Hop to Another Park: After entering your first park, you can hop to another park without needing a second reservation.

After 2:00 PM Rule: Annual Passholders can visit parks without a reservation after 2:00 PM. However, Magic Kingdom has restrictions on Saturdays and Sundays where this benefit doesn’t apply.

Monitor Reservation Availability

Plans change frequently during the holidays. Check the Theme Park Reservation Availability Calendar for cancellations that might open up opportunities to secure a spot.

Visit Other Parks

Consider spending time at less crowded parks like Disney’s Animal Kingdom or EPCOT (excluding December 31). They still offer plenty of attractions, dining, and holiday entertainment.

I noticed that tonight. Great show despite some low clouds!

They are however using the Enchantment launch sites for some reason though.

Wouldn’t these people rather know ahead of time instead of being turned around at the auto plaza?

whoever decided reservations were still a good idea. There’s a reason first come first serve worked well for decades. But no let’s continue to make the place more effort for guests, especially first timers.

Of note, guests using date based tickets are not required to make reservations.

Single-day-tickets for MK are not available on Christmas Eve nor Christmas Day. Disney would rather have a manageable crowd than anyone's $190.

Disney actively tries to prevent that. They have to staff more and GSATs plummet anyway. No one wins.

Many around here have been saying for weeks - "The crowds are coming! The crowds are coming!"

Who said there are supposed to be hordes of people? The whole purpose of reservations, limited passes, and surge pricing was to discourage the kind of numbers that shut down a gate. And to make money.

Big crowds are expected after Christmas until January 4th. This past weekend through Christmas Day was supposed to be moderate busy according to projections.

*Checks current wait times* *Notes there isn't anything out of the ordinary, with SDD and FoP having 2 and 2.5 hour waits* Where are the hordes of people that were supposed to descend on the parks this week? Maybe they all stayed away once LLPP sold out...

Doesn't look like MWCT is using Prim. for Day Guests this year.
