In a briefing this afternoon, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to questions about the theme parks reopening amid rising COVID-19 cases.
DeSantis said, "Theme parks are doing great. Society has to function. I have no doubt it is going to be a safe environment."
Specifically with regard to Walt Disney World, DeSantis said that Disney's plans are "very very thorough."
He was later asked what would make him change his mind about theme parks reopening, but did not offer an answer.
Florida has seen new COVID-19 cases surpass 11,000 per day in the past week, with positivity rates of those tested consistently exceeding 15%.
Walt Disney World begins its phased reopening to guests from July 11, but will begin a round of previews beginning July 7 with Cast Members, and July 9 with Annual Passholders.
