Disney has this evening adjusted its COVID quarantine guidelines for cast members at Walt Disney World to follow the latest guidelines from the CDC which reduces isolation from 10 to 5 days, and requires the use of a mask for 5 days on return to work.
You can view the latest CDC guidance, which Disney is following, at the CDC website.
The CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to 5 days, if asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others. According to the CDC, the change is motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after. Therefore, people who test positive should isolate for 5 days and, if asymptomatic at that time, they may leave isolation if they can continue to mask for 5 days to minimize the risk of infecting others.
Like much of the world, the Orlando area is seeing significant numbers of COVID-19 cases, likely driven by the latest Omicron variant. The sheer number of cases among cast members was meaning that large numbers of cast would have been absent from work under the old 10 days guidelines, making operations at Walt Disney World nearly impossible to continue.
As of now, guidelines remain unchanged for guests, with mask usage when indoors the only COVID-19 mitigation measure in place at Walt Disney World.
Tthis is the current guest mask policy at Walt Disney World.
Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. This includes upon entering and throughout all indoor attractions and indoor queues and in Disney buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are optional for Guests in outdoor areas.
