Confusion around Disney's decision to introduce overnight parking fees at its resort hotels

Disney's official parking information page is no longer listing any parking charges for its resort hotels, although it is unclear if yesterday's announcement of parking charges has been reversed.

The official site's parking page now says "Standard self-parking at Resort hotels is complimentary for Resort Guests. Valet parking is available at select Disney Deluxe Resorts for $25 per day."

Yesterday saw that page list a variety of charges for overnight parking, which varied from $13 to $24 per night, depending on category of resort.

However, the official website's individual resort pages now list the parking fees as coming March 21. The Animal Kingdom Lodge page states "Effective for new reservations made March 21, 2018 and thereafter, standard overnight self-parking is available to registered Guests for a fee of $24 per night. Valet parking is also available for $33 per night. All parking fees include applicable tax.

Complimentary standard self-parking is available while you enjoy select dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation experiences at this Resort."

It is unusual for Disney to reverse course on decisions, particularly once they are made public, although this particular decision has faced a lot of criticism online.

It may well be that the official parking page will be updated with pricing after March 21, when the price changes were announced to be taking effect.

Well... that was just that nobody went there anymore until Potter opened.

Could be pre-Star Wars lull too. People may be holding off on trips until the new land opens. Happened with Uni too for both Potter Lands.

You could have parked at the Springs and bussed over ...

We stayed one night back in July this summer. We drove in and were never charged the parking resort fee after the fact. I purchased the room on wdw site and thought I would be charged the fee afterwards once we left. Nothing. We only stay on-site maybe twice a year. We will be back for an overnight trip Nov 9th staying till Nov 11th. Couldn't find a room for a decent price so using Father-in-Laws hotel points to stay nearby off Palm Pkwy for $0 for 3 days/2 nights.

Discounts for the first half of 2019 were higher than the discounts in the first half of 2018. I do wonder if that means anything. Sure they can still fill the rooms, but they are doing so at lower prices.

Yup. We booked last December, and stayed in September with no parking fees. And we had TWO cars! (Ha! Take that, parking fees!)

And people already booked when the announcement came got grandfathered in with no fees I believe.

Don't forget that they released discounts several months ago because of light occupancy for the fall. It took much longer than expected to fill up the hotels.

I am renting points going forward. No fee's doing that but if I am doing a quick overnight then I will stay on site.

Our trip in May will be on site, however as i posted elsewhere our spending in the parks will be considerable less than in previous visits to compensate for parking fees, and all the other price increases too numerous to mention. Since we drive there is a lot we can bring with us so why pay WDW inflated prices

By looking at the amount of, or should I say lack of hotel availability, I would venture to say not many
