Disney has taken steps to further inform guests of upcoming changes to the TRON Lightcycle Run attraction at Magic Kingdom.

As of September 9, 2024, the virtual queue system, which has been in place since the attraction's launch, will be discontinued. In its place, guests can join the standby line or purchase access via Lightning Lane's Single Pass experience.

This significant change is being communicated to park-goers through a pop-up notification in the My Disney Experience app starting today. The notification, which features an image of the illuminated TRON canopy, informs guests of the new process to "Enter the Grid" as members of Team Blue.

Since its debut, TRON Lightcycle Run has been one of the most popular attractions at Magic Kingdom. Inspired by the iconic TRON film series, the ride allows guests to board lightcycles and race through a digital landscape in a high-speed, adrenaline-pumping experience. Until now, access to this attraction has been limited to a virtual queue system and an Individual Lightning Lane purchase, which required advance planning and quick fingers on the My Disney Experience app.

The virtual queue system, first introduced for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney's Hollywood Studios, was implemented at TRON Lightcycle Run to manage the high demand and to ensure a smoother flow of guests through the attraction. Guests had to join the virtual queue at set times throughout the day, with spots often filling up in seconds. This system allowed Disney to control crowd levels and reduce wait times, but it also left some guests disappointed if they couldn't secure a boarding group.

Be sure to check back with WDWMAGIC on September 9 for our in-depth coverage of the new TRON Lightcycle Run standby line as it officially begins operation.

It's a great attraction ... alebit with everything Disney has produced in the past decade about a minute too short.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they do it after fireworks or near closing time for day guests on a party night.

Yeah, having Big thunder and space down along with Tiana's being pretty unreliable would be bad.

I think they only want 1 tier 1 ride down at a time. Pan>Jungle Cruise> Big Thunder> Space

My fear with the lower wait times is Disney would be incentivized to intentionally run Space with less capacity. They already do it at park open.

I would be okay with a change of the track and vehicles into something more modern (DL or similar), but I have a feeling the if they tore down the facade like at Tokyo, people would riot (and also right now, they wouldn't spend the money on that big of a refurb). The only reason that DL got the facelift in 03-05 was because the track was structurally unstable, so I wouldn't expect too much of a change unless there is a major change in executives (and hasn't that been said before).
