Reflections - A Disney Lakeside Lodge Construction - October 18 2024

Construction activity appears to be ramping up at Walt Disney World, with cranes now in position at the site where the long-delayed Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge project may be making a comeback. The arrival of the cranes follows recent filings with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), which both indicated a potential revival of the resort development.

The FAA filing, submitted earlier this year, detailed plans for the use of large mobile cranes for the construction of a 10-story hotel, with cranes reaching up to 240 feet above ground level (AGL) when fully extended.

This height and scale closely align with previous plans for Reflections, a deluxe nature-themed resort originally planned for the shores of Bay Lake, between Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.

As of today, the cranes are onsite and in position, ready to begin work on what many speculate will be the restarted Reflections project. According to the FAA filing, the cranes are expected to be onsite through August 14, 2025, indicating a long-term construction schedule.

Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge was initially announced in 2018 as a deluxe resort featuring over 900 hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas. However, in 2020, the project was quietly shelved amid the financial uncertainties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and much of the initial pre-construction work was dismantled. Since then, the area has largely remained dormant, with many believing the project had been abandoned for good.

Recent filings, however, have hinted at a renewed focus on the project. In addition to the FAA filing, a recent CFTOD filing pointed to ongoing preparations for new electrical infrastructure, with Chen Moore and Associates contracted to install electrical transformers for what has been referred to as "Project S"—widely believed to be the Reflections resort. These filings, combined with the cranes now in place, paint a picture of a project that is very much back on track.

Disney has yet to make any formal announcements regarding the revival of Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge, but the developments at the construction site are hard to ignore. With cranes in position and the groundwork being laid, it seems increasingly likely that the nature-themed resort will soon take shape along the shores of Bay Lake, bringing to life Disney's vision for a new deluxe retreat between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort.

Uniformly, as far as I’m aware.

Uniformly, or tapering like Poly Island Tower?

The whole thing 9 stories? It looks like part of it has already capped out but wasn’t sure if certain areas would be shorter. Also are the sight lines from the settlement area any concern to anyone of importance? I’m curious to see how they keep the two resorts separated. Did notice a new access gate is being put in at the settlement bus stop to keep people from cutting through.

East side - cash. West side - DVC. And it’s 9 stories. That’s not changing.

I will start by stating I don't have special affinity for fort wilderness. Any review of the placement of this resort would conclude that Disney management could care less about Fort wilderness. It is so intrusive to the feel and theme of Pioneer hall . and the rest of Fort wilderness. Disney management had to know this and didn't care. They have fallen so far from the 80's when Card Walker and Marty Sklar were running the show. How can they not understand their own business. I still have great trip when I go but they could do sooo much better.

based on that picture, they should block the view in about 2055... Sadly there is no way to block the view of the huge buildings... They have forever impacted the Wilderness feel of Fort Wilderness.

From just now. It looks like maybe this is the final height? Last image shows how landscaping is being placed to help create a buffer.

The C shape reminds me of Aulani now that I think about it. (Not that I've ever been.)

I still have vague hope the resort seems to be tapering its height. Especially towards the Y; which will help with the sight lines from Wilderness. Already this feels much less intrusive than their most recent hotel towers.

The C shape should be the cash rooms and the Y the DVC.

It’s definitely a mixed resort. Both regular and DVC.

At the fort today, they saved a lot of the old growth trees around the site so it helps the hotel feel blended in. They have also planted a berm between pioneer hall and the bus stop to hide it from the fort area. Hoping that they continue that intentional landscaping as the project goes to help hide things or at least make it feel natural. Except for a few angles near the settlement it’s not super obtrusive, and I think once the finishes go on and the landscaping is done it’ll fit it’s surrounding much better then the poly and g flo towers do. Curious where the access road will be. And have we determined if this is DVC and cash rooms?

I believe they are spud poles temporarily driven pilings used to anchor and stabilize the barges seen there
