Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Disney has officially announced that the Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios, replacing Aerosmith. The news comes after years of speculation about the future of Aerosmith's involvement with the popular thrill ride at Walt Disney World.

The first hint of a Muppets-themed makeover came from Jeff Yorkes, co-creator of "The Muppets Mayhem" on Disney+. Back in June 2023, Yorkes hinted at the idea on Twitter, responding to a rumor article with, "Not gonna lie-- this was absolutely part of our original pitch and is another piece of this dream. Fingers-crossed that it happens."

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, known for its high-speed thrills and iconic rock soundtrack, recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment. The ride improvements focused on the ride system and lighting, but kept the Aerosmith storyline intact—at least for now. With Disney's announcement, the coaster will soon feature a new Muppets-themed experience, adding fresh energy and humor to one of Walt Disney World's fan-favorite thrill rides.

This announcement coincides with another major shift for the Muppets at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney has also confirmed that MuppetVision 3D will close to make way for the upcoming Monsters Inc. Land.

Details on the new Muppets storyline for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster are still under wraps, but Disney says "The Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music's biggest stars for a rockin' music festival!"

Disney has yet to give a closing date for the current version of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, but for now, fans of Aerosmith's iconic coaster have a limited time to catch their favorite band in action before the Muppets bring their unique twist to this high-speed adventure.

No way that happens THAT early with this many open ended projects. Destination D is usually more about updates on existing projects. At most we get a sly reference saying "we hear your very real demands for something new in Animation Courtyard and we are currently in the middle of imagineering different experiences to bring to our WDW guests in the near future" and that's it.

I wouldn’t bet on anything like that until 2028 at the earliest.

    That soon?

    I'd guess Destination D 2027 (saving myself)

Do we have an idea as to when the Animation Courtyard replacement project will be announced? Is there active development on the project?

Does anyone have any guesses to when they think rock and roller coaster will close

I'm thinking (hoping) the guitar will be green with iconic lighter green starburst collar pattern to subtly resemble Kermit. Then graffiti symbols and music notes along a repainted rainbow-colored track/neck design with the upside-down Cadillac now in purple featuring static figures of Electric Mayhem.

If it's triggered by $5,000 than a lot more residential painting projects will hit that in 2025 than did in 2019. I am in the process of painting a fence and paid $63 per gallon for paint doing the labor myself.

The scaffolding isn’t the trigger. You could do an entire project with lifts and still have to file the notice. No, it’s not just because it’s commercial. Most residential work isn’t going to hit the project valuation requirements.

To repaint an exterior or interior of residential, no permit required. Probably given it’s a commercial project

This! Long before I started recording these we were calling them "permits" so the name just stuck since it was simpler the "notices of commencement".

Via Google - "If your project value exceeds $5,000, you will need to file a Notice of Commencement... prior to starting any work." The link you quoted is a Notice of Commencement, not a permit. This just means it's expensive, which is to be expected when you need that much paint and labor. Also, as stated above, scaffolding.

I don’t know about Florida but where I’m from you can paint whatever you want but the scaffolding needed to paint a guitar that big would definitely require some permits.
